As a retired State Correctional Sgt I am all for it! Why should these scumbags be allowed to live, associate with their home boys, socialize and have a life! Do you know it costs the tax payers approx $70.000 a year to house, feed and watch these people? now times that about 160,000 inmates, thats alot of money that could be spent on feeding the poor and deserving people in this country. They have no remorse, in fact laugh and brag about how their victims died. |

very much against, if there is a preson who did something wrong, out them in jail for the rest of their life to make them think about what they did, not put them out of their pain of jail. also, who are we to say as people who live and who die. |

For..but only in extreme cases such as a mass murderer and such. I am for it because a man who has killed so many lives and has taken away family members living a life sentence is unfair. Why because he gets to LIVE while his victims will never see their family again. So a life sentence is luxurious considering what happened to his victims. The only way to make it right is to pay with his own life |

A I am for the death penalty. What is the purpose of a life sentence. The only problem with the death penalty is that somehow an exectution costs over a million dollars. It is more expensive to kill someone then hold them in prison for life. The penal system is a joke. If people are convicted of violent crimes, i.e. murder or rape, and there is no reasonble doubt or chance of ever overturning a verdict those people should be put down like a rabid dog. They do not have any value to society whatsoever, and should be treated accordingly. A bullet in the head only costs five cents, I've got a whole jar of change if they need donations. |

I have been against the death penalty for about 47 years. It is no deterrant to capital crime. Anyone who seriously thinks that someone in the heat of the moment of commiting a crime or even planning any such crime considers it is a fool. I believe the only time one person should kill another is during war. War should be avoided as much as possible and used only as a last resort. Innocent people have been put to death for crimes they did not commit. It is used unfairly with people of color given that sentense more than whites. Sometimes it is used more for revenge than as a means of punishment. There are even some inmates who want to end worthless lives of pain and suffering due to choices they made etc.
Mentally ill people have been executed and don't know what they did but are killed just the same. Capital punishment is barbaric. All other civilized first world nations have banned it.

I am for it, as long as it fits the crime.
If a man murders someone or their family, or is a rapist or pedophile, I don't think he deserves to live.
Some people say that the "offender" has rights, but I belive that as soon as he took that persons life away or ruined their life they lost all their rights, including the right to live.
Some people say that the "offender" should just be put in jail for a while or the rest of their life, I don't think they should for such an extreme crime. First of all, their is that tiny chance of escape, even though it is small I wouldn't want to risk it so they could go back out to commit the crime again.
When the offender is in jail they don't have it all that bad either, they have a place to sleep, 3 meals a day, and they get out for excerise everyday, do they really deserve all that after they killed or raped someone?
I think that it's cheaper to just put someone to death than pay for their needs the rest of their lives, that means paying for all their food, all three meals every single day, the beds they sleep in, and the prisons they are kept in, which most of them are becoming overcroweded, and guess who has to pay for the creation of more prisons? The taxpayers (that's us!)
We also do pay for the death penalty, which is also pretty expensive, I would personally like to put a bullet through them, which is a cheaper alternative, but people would still complain no matter what you do.
I think this quote is actually quite fitting: "You can please some of the people some of the time, or all of the people some of the time, but you cant please all of the people all of the time" ~ Abraham Lincoln
I realise that not everyone that is put to death is guilty, but I would rather give one innocent person if it could save more than one, wouldn't you?
In most states the ciminal is put to death by lethal injection, what it is is a shot of medicine put in the person's arm to make them go asleep, then they do a second injection, which stops the persons heart, so they die with pretty much no pain, except the needle going into their arm.
Frankly, I think that for some crimes that isnt enough of a punishment, call me sick or whatever you want, but I think murderers and pedophiles and rapists don't deserve a simple almost painless shot, I think they deserve to be hung, or killed via firing squad, or the electric chair. I think that when that person killed another person or people, or ruined that child or woman's life that they should suffer a bit, especially when the person slowly kills thier victim or something, then I would have no problem pulling the switch to start up the electric chair.
So the death penalty has it's positive points and it's bad points, no one side is perfect, but I go with what makes the most sense, and I belive having the death penalty makes the most sense. If it is so barbaric and is illogical, than why is the death penalty still around?
Call me sick, or call me the real murderer, but thats my thinking on the subject of the death penalty.

An eye for an eye like the first puritans of this country say. Actually I think the law nowadays is a bit benevolent. |

Simply put...
there is no way anybody will ever convince me that it's right to kill a person, because they killed a person. Why is one killing wrong, and one killing right? And, who thinks they are supreme enough to make that decision against their fellow man? |

100 % for it , it should be done quickly not 15 years later .however with that being said , the burden of proof in a death penalty case IMO should be guilt with out any doubt . when that is determined . the penalty should be carried out THE NEXT DAY |

im for....but for every infraction of the law....under the law we are all created equal...so we should all be punished as equally too...death for murder?...then death for speeding..for cheating...for insults...let the speeder go with a ticket?...they zoom around the cornor and going too fast run over YOUR kid...should of got pulled out of the car and shot...but then they used to hang people for stealing horses and cows... that didnt stop the theft |

I think people should get the death penalty for multiple rape/ serious injury/ murder kind of stuff. There are a lot of people who have been put to death who did not deserve it. But, the kinds of people who are repeated murderers are not going to change; they likely are sociopaths and are not fixable. It is sad that they exist in society but I think putting them to death for the crimes is only to the benefit of society.
I once had a foster sister who was only a couple months oldbefore her dad beat the **** out of her - she now has permanent serious brain damage. He only got a few years in prison but when other inmates find out what he did his life will certainly be miserable. |

Against!!
Murder is murder whether it is the street thug or the state...and that is what the death penalty is: State-sanctioned murder.
It is no deterrent - if it was, death rows across the nation would be empty.
I do believe in life without parole...
The average cost to the taxpayer for a death penalty conviction is approximate 14 million dollars over the life of the appeals - per person. This is taxpayers money that could be used for so much more - schools, more police, highways, roads, infrastructure, etc. This is a lot of money to put out in order to "get revenge" - and that's what the death penalty is. As comparison, the cost of supporting someone serving life is approximately 30,000 per year, inclusive.
So, morally and financially, the death penalty makes no sense. |

I am very much for the Death Penalty. If the DNA and physical evidence is conclusive that the suspect committed the crime I say they ONE appeal just to make sure everything was done right and if so, fire up Old Sparky and get'r done!
Why do we want to have people in our society that think life is meaningless. They torture, rape, and kill with out remorse. I have no sympathy for them. For that matter we should make child molestation a capital offense since 80-90% of offenders molest after doing time. |
