Are your local police value for money?

heavymetalbitch
i had a lot of help from my local police when i was having trouble with my ex bf. and i rang them when the house next door was being burgled and they were round within a few minutes.

I think so. But some people will never be satisfied.

I don't think so, there are too many reasons to list here. But here are a couple......

There have never been so many police officers employed, however, only about 20 % are actually on the beat or in uniform.
City response units are so small, at some times you may only actually get 1 maybe 2 cars working a massive area.
The Cps require a ridiculous amount of paperwork in order to prosecute/charge anyone.
There are far too many PCSO`S. In principal, they should be effective, but until they are utilised appropriately they will not be as effective. Until then, real cops are still doing work that Pcso`s could be doing,i;e staffing a crime scene etc.
There are far to many uniformed cops stuck behind a desk, for hours, after they have arrested someone. There should be 24hr prisoner processing teams, who will accept ALL prisoners, not just the ones that fit into their remit.
Armed response units don't want to leave the gym to attend a job until a uniformed patrol has ascertained it is safe to do so, or a "plain" car has driven past. This may not apply to all forces, but most definately the force I work for.
Violence and dispespect towards officers and the uniform has soared, however the Gvt will not give us the Taser.
Moral is at an all time low, the police are being refused a payrise this year. This single act will ensure that moral stays low and that the public as a result will encounter more"stressed" cops.

It is a very difficult question to answer. Obviously we would like to see more of them on the beat rather than flying around in cars. They always appear to be in the wrong place at the wrong time but I have to admit that without them the country would be in an even worse situation. They have an awful job to do but I wish they could concentrate their efforts on reducing crimes of violence by being seen in those areas where the thugs live and practice their bullying tactics. The police should make the streets safer to live in in order that we may walk without fear.

I believe that my local police force are value for money. Despite the fact that I do not see many of them walking around on the streets, the crime figures in my area is proof enough that they are doing their job properly.

I also feel that the police get too much negative press. Crime has dropped slightly in the last ten years, yet perception of crime has gone through the roof. Perhaps we should be asking ourselves why we do not give them more credit for what they do, instead of constantly berating them for the supposed lack of crime fighting.

Our local copper station used to be open during the day (two coppers) and closed at night (after 5pm).
But it has been closed permanently now and we rarely see any coppers - not that we need them, we don`t get the problems the big city and towns get.

ok are u asking if the local pilice do any good ?
if so in my town we do not have local pilice we have to call the sharif whisch is a pain because they can be any where in the state so it takes them a long time to come when there was a gun fight going on next door we called them and it took them over an hour to get here so they were kinda slow
but other times thell be there in a few minetes but o well right (no one got hurt from the gun fight)

My county police force (Beds) was assessed as the worst scoring only 1 point out of 21 in a recent inspection. It also has the highest level of complaints against the police. Value for money ? No!!!!

Simple answer, no. Too many fat cats at the top and not enough Officers on the beat. In Devon most people have forgotten what a Police Officer looks like we see so few of them.

linda
No they are not

I witnessed someone removing a cash machine skimmer from an ATM. The daily newspaper said this was the fastest growing crime and a top priority of all forces. So I phone my local branch, not 999 cos its not an emergency. The phone rang for 30 Min's (i had it on speaker) and no answer. I try the next day 20Min's and no answer. 3rd time lucky and they say we will be round for a description of these people as its a very serious crime. Never heard from them again!

Its probably not their fault, i know, its Targets and red tape.

do we still have them? i never see any
