So, I have to write a 5-6 min speech arguing against gun control for my criminal justice class, does anybody know some good facts and info I can use? The answer with the most info gets the 10 points
P.S. I need to quote sources in the speech so links would be helpful! Thanks in advance

Gun control is to prevent illegal activity with them. Bad news is that crooks, criminals, gang bangers will always have guns, but good people won't be able to get them. Screwed up! |

...specifically what control ?....or any control ?
...I mean most people are somewhere in the middle.... they don't think just anyone, for example violent criminals, should be allowed to own firearms but they also don't want the government telling them what they can and cannot do as a law abiding citizen.
For example, I support the idea that owners of firearms should have to register them. And it's mostly to the benefit of the owner to do so anyway.
I own several firearms, and a while back I had a few unregistered rifles stolen,...the police said that if they were recovered they would be destroyed, becaus I can't prove that I ever owned them even though I had the serial numbers, and the person they catch them with cannot be charged for knowingly posessing stolen property. Had I known then what I know now, I might have registered all of my firearms a long time ago.
I support controls that do not put a monetary burden or hinder the ability of law abiding citizens to own firearms. It is a right to own firearms.
That being said,.... I do not support an assault weapons ban, because there is no evidence to support the notion that they are more "dangerous" than any other weapon of the same caliber. A/R 15 , M16, in semi-auto config - No more dangerous than a 30/30, or shotgun,...or .22 caliber if aimed properly. I won't support any policy that limits small arms ownership.
Now if someone invents a "ray gun", that can desintigrate people... then go ahead and make that illegal... in which case it wouldn't be considered a firearm anyway I guess... but you get the point. |
