Arrested...to teach person a Lesson?

Arrested...to teach person a Lesson?

A Male, 16 years of age.

Was seen drinking in the street by officers. One asked for Identification, and he produced a fake I.D Card.

The Officers then comfronted him, and arrested him.

The person was then left in Cells overnight, just to teach the person a lesson.

**************************************...

Would you want your Son or daughter held overnight?

Note : This is not me by the way, I know a Police Officer

We could do with a lot more of that sort of thing. In the old days, a policeman would give a youngster a slap round the chops, but with all the do-gooders and the PC Brigade, they can't do it nowadays, so a night in the cells might well be the answer to this cheekiness !

If it was my son or daughter I would ask the police to keep them for a few nights.

Copgirl
Yes. A slap on the wrist does nothing.

The law is the law, and at 16 a person should have begun to form at least rudimentary good judgement. If you can't do the time, don't do the crime..!

You don't seem to understand what was happening. Using a fake ID is a CRIME. Police Officers don't decide how long you stay in jail, the courts do.

If all he got was 1 night in jail then he was lucky.

Well if he has learned his lesson. 16 is too young to be drinking and it is an offence to openly drink in a public place unless under a licence. so I don't think I would disagree with the Officer.

I think there's a lot more questions that you would have to ask.
Would you want your Son or daughter drinking alcohol underage?
Would you want your Son or daughter to break the law?
Would you want your son or daughter taught a lesson?

If it were my child, I would have been the one that CALLED the Police.

He committed a crime - he had a fake ID card. If you do something wrong, whoever you are, you should be prepared to get caught & punished for it. It's not something I would WANT to happen - if I had kids, I hope I would've taught them right from wrong, but I wouldn't object to them being held overnight if it taught them a lesson.

First, he is under aged and drinking. Than he gave the cops a fake ID. Both of these are major crimes, and he should be in Jail for a lot longer.

Yes if I thought i would do any good. there are already too many grown adults who expect mommy and daddy to rescue them whenever they get in trouble. This is because they were not taught responsibility and that actions have consequences. Spending the night or two in jail may make the person realize that they cannot break the law with impunity.

Yes, serves them right and gives them a taste of what to expect in the future if they continue to break the law.....

Your mate may have told you the story and said he only did it to teach the person a lesson, however that will only be because he didn't want to bore you rigid with the law.

The legal reason he was arrested and kept in the cells over night will be as follows:-
Fake ID, and trying to give duff details to a police officer is an offence. Ergo, he was arrested, probably for obstruct police, drunk and disorderly, fraud by false representation or similar.
Because he is 16 the law requires an appropriate adult to attend the station when the police are ready to deal with that young person.
Overnight, Social Services and the young persons' AA services do not work. They are available 0800-2300 hours daily.
If that lad's parents were not willing to come to the nick overnight, then the police are obligated to keep him in custody until the services start up again in the morning.
If he was drunk, he could not be dealt with anyway, until he was stone cold sober, so that will probably be the main reason for him being in overnight - to sober up.
In the morning, he would have been dealt with - interviewed with an AA if necessary, or just issued with the Reprimand or whatever he was eligible to get.

Don't judge your mate - he made a correct arrest, but the age and alcohol intake of the drunken yob will be the reason for him spending the night in the bins.

Hopefully that night in there DID teach the prat a lesson, but there is considerably more to this than you realise.

He was kept overnight no doubt because he was drunk. The purpose of an arrest is not to punish. In this case it will be to establish ID.

I wouldn't want my 16 year old drinking in the street, in possession of a fake ID. If they did that, the best place for them would be a cell while I cool off.

Far too much Police time is taken up by dealing with what is essentially bad parenting. It isn't the Police's job to look after your kids.

Yes but there is/must be more to the story....He committed 2 crimes and should be in for longer than that....

To many parents want to "protect" their kids from reality and let them get away with things....

New Years early morn....My partner and I pulled over a car with a suspected DUI....Found an 17 yr old female driving on the revoked list for ....DUI....We TRIED to be somewhat nice and called the parents to allow them to pick up their daughter at the scene as it was only about 5 blocks from her home....result...the parents started YELLING at us for "Harrassing" their daughter....I guess it was our fault she blew a 0.14 on the breathilizer....If they really wanted to stop her from getting busted....STOP HER DRINKING and make her and other kids responsible for THEIR OWN ACTIONS

Of course not , its really no big deal, and certainly not worthy of incarceration. This is the tip of the police state and the fact that so many answers think it's ok proves the government/nwo brainwashing is working
By the way last time i checked we don't need to carry id where the kid went wrong was in showing a false one,he should have kept his mouth shut till the cops got bored and went away.

Bear in mind i am in UK where people over 5 years old can drink but not buy alcohol until 18

no unless it was for their own safety
