At an intersection, the light is red. Police?

Im driving down a road, and I see two police cars with their sirens on.
First I do the standard procedure, which is to slow down and pull over to let them pass.

Now I notice up ahead at the intersection there are people stopped at a red light, and the police need to get through. What are the people ahead suppose to do? Go out into the intersection while it is red?

There is no provision in the law that allows you to proceed through a red light, so you will not be covered if you cause an accident. Your legal requirement is to pull as far to the right as practical and stop.

Officers will normally go into the oncoming lane to avoid this problem.

pull close to the right as possible and if that's impossible, just remain still and let the cops go around
