theres blue lights? never seen it yet |
|

New hope.

You shouldn't be liable for that. You had no other choice, you had to get off the way. |

Bear & Ian UK are 100% correct!
Moving out of the way of an approaching emergency service vehicle is simply a curtsy - It's only common sense to have to creep through a red light, just don't cause an anccident yourself |
|

No, the camera records what vehicle went through the lights after you, the distance it was behind you and the speed. You won't be prosecuted for that. It is there to prevent everyone who slams through the lights on red simply claiming they had someone right behind them and were afraid to stop for fear of causing and accident. |

I wouldn't think so - clearing the way for emergency vehicles takes precedent over most other traffic laws UNLESS by doing so you endanger others or yourself. If you moved the minimal amount to let the vehicle past and did so in a way that didn't endanger anyone, you should be okay.
Of course, local laws do vary, but most of the time the cops and EMS are just happy that people do get out of the way.
(I hope I interpreted your question properly.) |

I wouldn't think so. Just explain your situation |
|

Bear

No would be the answer. It would be reasonable to expect you to move forwards slightly to allow the emergency services vehicle to get past. You would be able to state which type of emergency vehicle and have a date and time for this. As a result the relevant emergency service would be able to check on their incidents to confirm this. |

Oh interesting (have a star) I don't think you would be in trouble, The ambulance made the driver do it. |

Vehicles with blue-lights/audio signals are allowed to cross red lights, however this must be done with EXTREME caution, in this situation the red light must be treated as a "give way," the advanced driving course done by paramedics/fire appliance drivers/suitably trained police drivers teaches that whilst crossing a red light, first gear should be used. (>10mph.)
Good practice is for the driver to change the siren pattern, and give as much warning to approaching vehicles as possible. |

I would contest any or all moving violation tickets.
You have that legal right to do so.
Most people won't bother to contest a ticket and just "pay" the fine, up goes the ol' insurance rates for at least 3 years not to mention the "points" off your license which puts you in even greater danger of suspension and all the hassle associated with trying to get it back.
All tickets are a revenue source for the town/city/state that issues them. You have and should consider your legal rights at all times to fight them.
If you are not a habitual offender of moving violations, then that is even more of a reason to fight the ticket.
In a lot of cases you should be able to get it reduced to a parking ticket or similar non-moving violation, plus court costs. That is far cheaper than higher insurance premiums for 3 years and the points off your license.
Sure, the system wants you to "feel intimidated" so you won't do another similar moving violation.
But, the system will not inform you of your right(s) to challenge a ticket in a court of law.
The only one that is ever going to look out for you is YOU.
Ignorance of the laws whether for or against you as a citizen should never be an excuse not to take action on one's behalf.
Do what you feel is right. I know what I would do.
Just remember, the objective of a lot of tickets is revenue for the town/city/state. I did not say all tickets. |

No but I would contest a ticket if I got one in that situation. |

no you will not get points as the camera will see that you moved for the emergency services as long as you didnt folow it across the junction |

Only if you are speeding, You should only go threw the red light if the emergency veichle signals you to. |

Only in NY....Theses cops are trying to keep there quota going... They will give you a ticket for everything...its then up to you to prove yourself innocent... Just uniformed tax agents. Good Luck if you get mugged, you will never find a cop, or the guy who mugged you. |

Possibly - but they would be wiped out on reporting the facts - happened to me - ticket was quashed - |

I dont think you are liable because you could have saved someone's life, but i am not 100% sure on that. I assume you wouldn't get three points and a fine if its the best you could have done to let the emergency vehicle go past. |

You have appeal when the ticket arrives. Someone in that position lost there appeal in court recently which seems bizarre. I wouldn't risk a ticket by going through red or into a bus lane. |

A person with a blue light is a volunteer fireman. The blue light is only a curtosy light. It does not allow you to go through red lights, speed, drive in the wrong lane, etc. You wont be get a ticket it for cause it is not considered an emergency vehicle. An emergency vehicle is a fire truck, police car, cheif for a fire department, and ambulance. Thos you have to yield to. But with a blue light you have to follow the traffic laws. But you situation you were asking about the intersection. You should just stay where you are and let the guy pass if you want. Becuase if you move to the right the vehicle might start to go on that side and you might hit him. |

yes, you will get done for it. Its happened to me. First hand expierience...... |

in a country this stupid i could see you getting a ticket however t would probably be waived if you took it to court, and even then it might not get that far if you rang a few papers beforehand who would pay you a decent amount for a story like that HINT HINT ;-) |

I don't know but I would hope not. Technically, individuals with blue warning lights are not suppose to break the law and go through red traffic lights while responding to a call. Also, the public does not have to yield to them, people should (it's a nice thing to do), but it is not illegal if you fail to. If you get anything in the mail, I would try to explain your situation to them. Good luck.
Above are NYS laws. Driver only must yield to red emergency warning lights. |

Yes you will get 3 points!
It is called an absolute offence, whereby no matter the reason you do it the fact that it was done...means the offence was commited.
you may be lucky and get a magistrate to state the reason you did it is valid and have an absolute discharge...but that is only after a ton of grief.
this is what we in the uk have come to..no sense at all.
This is the position in the uk..to all those who have said mmmdont think so...forget it ....its an offence you will be summonsed.... |

Yes. You are supposed to PULL OVER when you see blue lights, not use them as an excuse to ignore the lights!
Silly goose. |
|

single occupant
|
Not clear... you mean if you choose to go through the light rather than pull to the side?
Interesting question.
I don't think the 'law' would make the distinction.
Related question: when a cop car runs a light, and his bubblegum-top isn't lit to indicate an emergency, does that driver get points off? ...oh yeah, law doesn't apply to them. I always forget. |
