In short because people are stupid.
People have a bad experience and generalize that ALL people of the same type act the same. In this discussion, that same type of person would be law enforcement. Someone may have a bad experience with law enforcement, so now all of the sudden, everyone who is a cop is Vic Mackey from "The Shield".
What do we call someone who does this based on race or ethnicity? We call them racist. We call racist people uniformed or ignorant because they take stereotypes and pass them off as norms. This is no different. Cops are people. People make mistakes. Punish those who make signifigant mistakes, or who abuse power accordingly. Then move on.
There is not one job in history that doesn't have its share of bad apples, no matter how noble or honorable the profession. |

Most cops are OK just doing their job. They do put their lives at risk for us, you know. If you were walking into a convenience store and saw an armed robbery in progress, would you rush in or away? A cop will rush in and confront the robber, at great risk to his life.
What about all the New York cops who rushed into the WTC towers as they were burning on 9-11-01? Many perished in the collapse. No, I don't bash cops. |

I do not agree with it either, if anything they should bash the lawyers for making it almost impossible to put the criminals they catch in jail. |

Very good question. I think ppl in general just don't like authority figures and the police are the most visible authority figure. Just like most teens "hate" mom and dad but they need something they run to mom and dad. |

I don't bash the police and I don't know anyone in my neighborhood that does that either maybe its just your neighborhood or the people you hang out with? |

Most cops are good, hard working people. Unfortunately there are many who are not, who are on the take or who abuse their authority. Those cops deserve to be criticized. The loudest critics of that kind of behavior, in my view, should be their fellow officers. They are the ones being made to look bad. |

I guess it is human nature. Anyone in a position of authority is subject to negative attacks/slurs. Unfortunately there are documented instances where there has been abuse, but I would submit that as in anyother profession be Medical, Clergey or whathave you the majority honestly try to do the best that they can.
I guess calling the Police for assistance is similar to when a kid says "(I hate you Mom/Dad" and then gets introuble/injured and the first ones they call for is the caregiver. |

Well I think some of it has to do with the location we live as well as how the local police are trained to handle general contact situations (some areas they tend to take an overly aggressive/intimidating position when it is not necessary). As well as how much press the truly bad police officers get. For when we see it over and over on the TV people tend to assume all police are that way. When in reality it is just a few bad ones, with the rest being people in a very frustrating position trying to do the best they can with what they have.
However where I grew up (keep in mind this was over 40 years ago), we did fuss a LOT about the police corruption and we didn’t call them either (it was a waste of time). I have to admit sadly that bias still lingers in me. |

Those are the folks we give a slowcode to. There are whole neighborhoods that rate it, and well deserved too I might add. |

I once had the police come to my home and tell me that I cannot throw bread into my own yard because the neighbors dog was eating it ...she was off a leash. Cops are OK, but just like all people some of them are butt holes!! |

BECAUSE the Police don't respond to stolen cars , minor assaults , petty theft, etc.
WHEN they do respond it's late , they are usually uninterested and try to ovoid any complaint or offense being registerd.
I don't think it is individual officers fault it is the system, governments fault
Crime Targets result in "don't let any one report a crime"
BIG town and CITY stations shut down after 5 pm
Huge areas for just a few policemen to cover
Policemen KNOW if they are in a confrontational situation and need back up that can be HOURS coming
Institutionally, only crimes committed by taxpaying middle income persons are perused because
a) they can be assured of getting the fines paid
b) The time taken and therefore the court costs are likely to be low
c) they Know they will be able to find them
In other word: ONLY cost effective crimes are likely to be perused where the time taken to conclude the action results in the costs being covered or exceeded.
Fix fine penalties are a prime example, I don't disagree with them, but they are a "cost effective way of raising revenue"
Similarly, ( I speak from personal experience) if you own a business and some one s stealing and up setting other customers you eject them, are assaulted by them an other family members YOU are told not to report it because YOU could be charged with assault....... That is how the crime figures are kept down ............. |

The police in this town do not respond to a lot of things and they take their time. Now if it someone they don't like or think it is some that has something. They will make up a reason to stop you or come to your house. They have even threaten to arrest you, because here we have some police that are beyond SMART. I'm not saying they are like that every where. We use to have good law in forcement here. SO if you lived here trust me you would totally understand. About 90 miles SE of OKC. |

Don't you watch the news ? They don't act like police anymore. They look and act like gestapo in full military dress. Whatever happened to "To Serve and Protect" ? |

where do you live? the police dont even come when you call them. if your car gets stolen, you have to go to police station to file report, if your beat down, they might get there in 7-8 hours. if someone is shooting, they dont come at all. they are useless to me. i have to defend myself and property. bless the second amendant for allowing me to do so. |

If your car was stolen or you get beat up it's because the police always fail to go after the real criminals and keep them away from the ones that act in a lawful manner! There are now over three times the number of law enforcement people on the payroll yet people are no more secure today than before! They should refuse to pay the pensions and fire most of them and you'll see a real change take place! |

Some policemen are ultra violent though I can see why they need to be extra careful. And as for calling the police when a crime is committed against you, isn't that their job? Aren't they employed by the public? |

It is a sad fact a policeman is there to help the public and protect them they are public servants it is a known fact that some policemen thing they are something else that what their post states and think they are above the law and have the power to do as they please others are out to prove a point look at a policeman's requirements very strict and we know only people to for fill the requirements are the swats at school you know the ones unpopular bullied picked on and it is pay back time to show they are big they will not be bullied and want to reek havoc on other to get there own back but bare in mind their are good ones as well who are not on a power trip Dave |

They say that because far, far too many cops are not only corrupt as hell, they routinely brutalize people and manage to get away with it. If we don't hold cops to a much higher standard than the rest of us, we might as well do away with police departments and depend on our own wits and weapons to protect ourselves. |

People should always be weary of a group of individuals who declare themselves absolute in authority and above authority itself. |

not all the time. some people who bash police may be in a bad mood at that time! they do not bash them 24hrs per day do they?:D

Why does everyone hate me?
|
My personal belief is that the role of a police officer and law enforcement has changed over the years. At one point, prior to the 1940's, police were not highly rewarded financially for their service and did their job out of pure determination to keep our families/cities/country safe. There are just way to many police officers out their with ego and attitude problems going around beating and killing to many Innocent or non-aggressive citizens. Police are on power trips and there is no other way to describe it.
Thank God we have the right to defend ourselves using lethal force if necessary if we are going to be victims. I personally would only call the police to let them know that I successfully practiced my second amendment rights when some clown tried to take away my rights. |

You need to bash them up, for they wield enormous power in maintaining the law and order. If they are not properly controlled they themselves will turn out to be criminals, whom they are supposed to contain and control. In a State where the police are not properly kept under check and control, they swap the role of the criminals and there will be little difference between the two. |
