I would like to know if you get paid more or less then average depending on where you work as a RCMP in Canada? If so, where are good/bad places to work?
Also I would like to know how hard is the RPAT exam, around what score you need to be guaranteed into the next step. How long one should study for the RPAT exam and if there are any good books on the exam?
Where are good places to volunteer and how/where can this increase the chances of your proceeding to the next step?

All RCMP get paid the same. The only difference in pay for RCMP is isolation pay, which obviously doesn't apply to Vancouver. That is one of the problems of being RCMP. Their salary is awesome if you live in Eastern Canada. Try living on it in Vancouver.
Another issue with RCMP is being posted to rural territory. Your backup can be hours away. In isolation, your backup can be alot further away.
The RPAT exam is not hard, there is an example of it on their website. The score to be successful depends on how many candidates they are looking for from you area and how many score higher than you. Say 100 people write and they want 60. 70 people pass, you have to be in the top 60.
Right now, RCMP are going through a recruiting crisis. They cannot train enough to fill the spaces that will be vacant due to retirements. So I would worry about passing not scoring high.
Any SAT book will help.
Any community volunteer work will look good. There isn't much you can do to increase your skills as a Police officer unless you become an auxilary officer.
ETA- you don't get to pick where you go after graduation. You put in top 3 and they try to accomodate. If not, you go where they want. |
