Being charged after an interview under caution (UK).?

I was interviewed under caution nearly a year ago by housing benefit investigators. They informed me they would be in touch and not a word since. Q Is there a time limit to how long I have to live with this threat of prosecution or do they have to charge me within a set period of time? Any advice greatly received.

Future Cop.

There is no "set period" of time that they have to catch you in. If you are doing benefit fraud then they can and will catch you, next time it won't be a slap on the wrist.

If you are claiming housing benfit illegally they can get you at anytime - if not you've got nothing to worry about.

The Court will look at the case and decide if there has been any undue delay - if there has then the prosecution might be stopped.

i.e. they have to have a justification for not bringing the case promptly
