Blew a .2 at a DWI checkpoint in North Carolina, first offense, what can I expect?

I have been told that I will lose my license for 1-year which I can accept because it was a horrible decision to get behind the wheel. But ive also heard I will have to put a ignition interlock device in my car which I believe is extremely excessive. Is there any way around this? Its also important to note that I was 100% cooperative with the officers and was let go the same night as the incident.

In North Carolina, it's one year license revocation for a first DWI. If you had been under TWICE THE LEGAL LIMIT, the interlock would not have been mandatory. But since you were above a .16, you have no choice in the matter.
Just keep reminding yourself that a license with an interlock system is better than no license at all! Also, since you got in trouble, look at the interlock device as a tool you have at your disposal to keep yourself (and us) safe. Use it to train yourself to make plans that don't involve driving when you are drinking. |
