I know Scottish laws are different to UK ones but in the UK a vehicle can be towed by the Police if it is causing an obstruction to your driveway.
Perhaps a gentle neighbourly word may even do it or if not .....
Contact your local NON emergency Police number for further advice.
Good luck |

its definitely illegal to block a driveway and i seem to recall that heavy commercial vehicles exceeding 3.5 tonnes are not allowed to park in residential areas after 1900 hours and before 0700 hours monday to saturday and all day sunday |

Get in touch with the police. The offence is obstruction.
I have had that problem ,even though I live in the country. The police done the offender and he got 3penalty points and £60. fine. I had trouble with someone else, and as I had just been shooting I had my shotgun with me and went and asked the chap to move his van. Funnily enough he moved like a scalded cat and never done it again ! |

Hi,, No one has the right to park on any road,(its just a thing that is never enforced) if it stops or interferes with the free passage of any road user who has the legal right to pass along that road or part of that road,(highways act)if a person obstructs a driveway then they are obstructing the free passage of that part of the road that a person needs to use,(its wilful obstruction),if a police officer asks for it to be removed and the person refuses to comply they can be arrested,, But ??? |

I asked the police this as we live in a cul-de-sac, a neighbour brings his lorry home { he has his car outside his house too }, you cannot turn round in the turning circle, but the police said as long as it is taxed mot'd then he can park where he likes, but he should not be allowed to park blocking your drive, check with police about it. you do not have to give you're name. |

Hi, i would say almost certainly it is illegal to block your driveway!!! it is not illegal to park a works vehicle at home though if it is over a certain size (maybe 5 or 7.5 tonnes unloaded, you'd have to check it should have side lights on at night...
have you tried talking to him??
assuming he is not very talkable to you need to contact the police (either through your local police station or if there is a non emergency number to call then use that) and make a complaint.
it would probably help you to have photo's of hte lorry blocking your drive adn times/dates of when it has happenned..
good luck |

It is illegal to block access to your driveway. Why don't you put a notice up saying. "do not park, access needed". |

this happened at my mums house, this is what the police told us.
it isn't illegal to block a driveway that has no car on it, it is illegal however to block a car onto a drive. also this depends on whether you have a dropped kerb, i think that makes it an offence to park over the drive.
it may be worth giving your local police station a call, but i doubt they'll be able to help much you could also give citizens advice a call.
hope this helps |

You have rights to complain about him blocking your driveway....don't think it is illegal to bring his works van home though, unless he has not got permission...some people are so selfish blocking other peoples drives. |

hey scotty, here in the u.s people that have work trucks can
park them in the drive way just as long as it is not blocking the other half of the drive way of the duplex or the person
can park it on the street .if the street is big enough to park vehicles on and as long is it,s not blocking the driveway ,but
i would call your police department there and ask . |

I'm not sure what a lorry is,but if he is blocking your driveway with it then you should go and speak to him. Call your law enforcement and ask them if this is illegal. I know it is illegal to block a driveway here in the state that I live in. |

o how annoying. my neighbour does hairdressing from home and this happens to me alot. i always just go and ask her to get them to move. as i have to either put my car in the drive r take it out. if u r saying u don't have a car. he still should ask out of courtesy if u mind him blocking ur drive. but if it was me i would go as far as buying a banger for €50 and just leave it parked out side my house so he couldn't park there anymore. ha I live in Ireland but am sure the laws would be similar. |

Here in the states bringing home a work lorry is perfectly legal, as long as the company the indvidual works for allows it.
As for parking in a driveway, that is illegal, in the states it would be a police matter. However, if you don't want to get the police involved you can try and discuss the matter with your neighboor.
Another option would be to call the company he works for and explain the situation to them. Maybe his company will get him to stop blocking your driveway.
Lastly, some cities have what is called code enforcement. They enforce the zoning ordinances for thier city. If your community has officials that enforce zoning laws ask if there is an ordinance that prohibits blocking a driveway. If there are they will get the person to comply. Best of luck. |

Does his vehicle block your driveway? If a 'lorry' was in my way I would learn a little thing called English. |

i know someone that used to put his car outside of his own drive way because he did'nt like people parking across the road from his drive way ( he found it diffecult to get out of his own driveway) the road was narrow so the neighbour across from him had to park futher up the road .The neighbour got fed up of this every time he came from work and infomed the police . the neighbour with the driveway was stubborn so was fined £1000 for parking his car outside his driveway when he had got a driveway to park his own car in .But ring the police and ask for some information on the situation .Good luck. I live in England. |

I'm from the US and don't know what you can do legally because I do not know Scottish law however if I where you I would find out if it is legal for you to have his vehicle towed. If the police won't do anything but you can legally have it towed then first ask your neighbor not to do it again (do not threaton him, have an attitude, sound angry, or warn him) If he dose it again after that call the police, if they won't do anything have it towed away. I also have to say to 1greg that if that person is putting your wife and unborn child in danger I think that if you can afford a bigger vehicle then his get one that can move his if you ram it. Then if and only IF there an emergency...RAM that idiot's vehicle out of the way and get your wife to the hospitol. You may have to pay to fix his car, and may get a ticket, but if you must do so to get your wife and child to the hospitol As Soon As Possible then you gotta do what you gotta do. Just my opinion. |

my Front neighbors and I share the same driveway. with assighned parking in back. My neighbors are always parking in the drive and block the exit and entrence. My wife is 32 weeks pregnant and on doc ordered bedrest for the last month. Since that time we have been to the emergency room 5x. We have talked them several times to please leave the drive clear and the situation., but they keep doing it. The last time I asked the wife of the front house started screaming at me and her husband tryed to grab my arm. I backed away and my other neighbor explained it to them again. After a 15 minutes they finally moved the van. And have been doing it since and putting my wife and unborn child in more damger.
If they keep blocking the drive and should I have an emergence again and something happens to my wife and unborn child because of it. do I have coarse to prosecute them for willful endangerment and obstrution? |

I wonder why some people can be so inconsiderate and a bully!
My neighbor and I share the same slope driveway to our car garages and, though I don't use my garage, I need to access the driveway to drop my heavy groceries, but their car will be part outside their garage blocking access to my place.
I've tried talking to them, but they forget the next day. Wonder if their capacity of their mentality is very limited. Ahhhh... |
