British Columbia Novice driving regulations ticket- please help!?

Basically, last night I was pulled over for the following three regulations:
1) Not enough seats for each person (One of my friends was in the back of my car, one was in the middle where there is a seat belt but it was pulled behind into the trunk, making it unusable)
2) Driving contrary to "N" restrictions (I should only be driving one person other than myself unless they are 25+, which none of my friends were)
3) No display of "N" sign
This is mine and my immediate family's first driving offence. Neither my friends or myself had been under the influence and there was no open alcohol in the car.
I told this to the police officer, and she said that she was usually more apologetic with the charges at a court date (basically, she was telling me to dispute it). However, she informed me that there was a possibility of a 3 month license suspension. My friends who had to leave the car further discussed this with her and she said that I seemed apologetic and frightened, and that at the court date there was a possibility of her waiving most of the charges.
My two questions about this incident:
1) How long, generally, does it take to set a court date? Will my suspension not be in effect until that date?
2) Is there any possibility of me disputing or shortening the suspension period?
Thanks for reading, i'd really appreciate any input/suggestions. I'm going to my ICBC office to report and discuss the charges today.

When you violated the conditions of your "N" restrictions, and clearly you are aware of this since you posted it here, there is nothing to dispute in Court.
The restrictions for new drivers were put in place to ensure that new drivers learn the rules of the road and learn to put the safety of themselves and others first. Clearly, you didn't.
If your only defence is that none of you were drunk, try that one on the Judge, and you will definitely receive a long suspension.
There is a good chance that ICBC will increase your premiums over this as well. |
