britain is a police state and for a country that expresses democracy in a cosmopolitan society, it practices the strictest level of security in the world.

How can you expect these guys to do a proper job when they're understaffed, moral is low and their hands are tied by stupid poitical correctness.
Not only that it must be very disheartening to see criminals, rapists, paedos etc get let off by brain dead judges after you've worked hard to capture them. Your question should be British Judges......"Heroes" or "Filth"? |

This is very difficult as I am a law abiding, high income, good job, family man with three children who pays my taxes, leans towards the right of politics and is probably a pillar of the community.......but....
I absolutely hate the police.
Every policeman or woman I have known personally, has been or become a totally nasty piece of work, and I don't know a single one who doesnt drink drive or smoke some drugs.
Every other policeman or woman I have met, whether to ask the time or as a motorist has been an arrogant, self important humourless bully.
On the few occasions when people I know have actually needed the police, due to assualt, or burglary, they have not shown up.
I want to bring my kids up to respect authority, but the average British copper is not worthy of respect. |

Neither. They have a job to do and, on the whole, do it very well. A 'hero' is someone who does something dangerous and difficult beyond the call of duty. Many policemen do that, from time to time; very few of them would like to think they were heroic.
There are a handful of people in every walk of life whose mentality does not suit the profession they are in. The media is very keen to make as much mileage as it can out of exposing such people. In a way, that is a good thing but, unfortunately, it tends to give a very unbalanced view of the situation and the media seem to have little concern with the ordinary good and much more for the extraordinary bad.
How individuals view the police depends greatly on which side of the law they tend to be on. If someone calls the police 'filth', that says much more to me about the person shouting than about the police force. |

My daughter is a police officer. She is a very fair and caring person and does a very demanding job to the best of her ability. She often gets held up at work after hours and for which she receives no extra pay. The force is under funded and under staffed and very often there are only a couple of officers on duty at any one time. The general public are often quick to criticise the police without really knowing what goes on behind the scenes. If they weren't snowed under by red tape and political correctness then they would be allowed to get on with their jobs of serving and protecting the community and fighting crime. So I think they do the best they can with the resourses they are given |
