Bulletproof vest recommendations?

Can anyone recommend a bulletproof vest that won't cost me an arm and a leg. Unfortuantly, police departments in my area don't buy officers a vest unless they are full-time. Very ridiculous, I know...but I refuse to work without one... especially since my borough borders a slummy area of Philadelphia.

You buy them by their rating go with the best oh and one that can have the shell removed and cleaned, buy extra shells to make it from wash day to wash day.

i recommend a level 2a or level 3 vest. u dont want hard plates cuz when pistol rounds hit it they will splatter. a removable outer shell is a good idea. underarmor is a must for vests. it keeps u cool in the summer. and ur not going to get one cheap. remember ur life may depend on this one day.and when or if that day comes ul be thinkin "man im glad i didnt buy this at a flea market."

I hate to say it, but this is one of the two things you don't want to be cheap on.

1.) Gun
2.) Vest

Don't buy a used one, and make sure the expiration date on the vest is far off in the future. Also make sure the vest is never (as much as possible) exposed to direct sunlight.

My department uses First Choice. Zylon is the mater you do not want. See if your department participates in the matching grant, if not, maybe you can convince them to apply. If not, out it on your credit card and make payment, you need to have one. Be safe.
