CRB checks and the Police?

In 2003, my partner and her ex-husband were going through a messy divorce that lasted over 6 years...
To make matters worse... he brought the house next door but 1 to us...
However during 2003 things got that bad, that the neighbours got involved... and I was accused of a lot of stuff... basically he wanted his wife back... so they did everything they could to try and spilt us up...
After a while of throwing various allegation's at us, each time the police was called and we went to court to prove our innocence and got the case thrown out...
It got that bad that I had to secretly sell my house, and move to a new address...
However this one time, because I was working from home I could not prove that I was not in my old street... and was done for threatening and abusive behaviour... Public Order Act 1986 - Section 4
Since then I have had to change my career direction, due to lack of work in general...
So I am now part way through a BSC Forensic Science Degree...
But I would like to work for either the Police or one of the various organisations (FSS - LGC - Etc) that work with the Police...
To do this... I have to pass a CRB check...
Will my Criminal Record... cause me any issues?
Is it now classed as a spent conviction after 5 years?

I've got some petty offences on my record and it didn't prevent me working for the Youth Offending Service. Your CRB or Disclosure Scotland check will bring up every offence you've been "done" for.Its best to disclose everything on the application form as if something crops up that you didn't put down then you've no chance of getting the job.
The usual ones that will prevent you from working for the police or others in that field are crimes against kids,violence,dishonesty and drugs.Any of them on your record and you've no chance of gaining employment.
If you get the chance at interview,explain what the offence was and the background to it-you'll probably find that it wont be that big a deal.
But,if the job offer was between you and some guy with no record,then they'd get it.

A CRB check will still take note of 'spent' convictions you can only ask the organizations themselves if it will be an issue but the worst thing you can do is hide the conviction or deliberately omit it from any paperwork.
I don't really understand your conviction though if you were not there when the threatening and abusive behavior you have been convicted of took place you could not have been convicted .It is not you who has to prove you were not there it is the police who have to prove you were there.So if you were not there they could not prove you were |

You can obtain a 'disclosure' from "Disclosure Scotland",which shows what is on your current file.The Police will provide a full print out of everything they have on file.(you have to pay for either)
As you are looking to be employed by the Police,it might be an idea to talk to them about your history.
Recently the press published figures,that stated that quite a few serving policemen have records,some of the offences were committed after the offenders had joined the police. |

There is no such thing as a spent conviction for certain categories of job.
Working for the police is one of them.
I suggest you go straight for full disclosure before your application goes too far.
The question that everyone will ask is - "how can we be sure he will act correctly if the case he is working on involves his ex-partner"? |

My x partner called the police and said that i had assaulted her, once i was arrested she changed her mind and decided to drop the charges. However i went to the police station voluntary and was questione and recorded. I was later realeased without any charge, i am applying for a job and an enhanced disclsure scotland is required, would that show up on my disclsure form that i was questioned. |
