California resident received a speeding ticket in Washington.?

I received a speeding ticket last Saturday (81mph in 60mph zone). I would like to pay the ticket. This is my first speeding ticket (since starting driving in 2002), and I had a turning on red without stopping just 2 years ago. It is not possible for me to show up in court, and I heard about citation deferment program, anyone knows how to get into that program without showing up in court?

Read both sides of the green copy you were given by the officer. The court information will be clearly posted on it. Call the court with any questions you have. Washington has a very short time frame for you to respond or you lose all rights to contest or work out a deferment. Failure to respond to a Notice of Infraction (speeding citation) in Wa. will get your driving privilege suspended in Wa. I believe Ca. is a reciprocal state, and you could also get you Ca. license suspended. That would take some time, effort and expense to sort out. |

It IS possible to show up in court. It is EXTREMELY inconvenient, but NOT impossible. The citation SHOULD have a phone number somewhere. Call and ASK if you can mail a payment. If you don't want to return to WA, a deferment is the OPPOSITE of what you want. |

You will need to contact the court which is listed on your citation. They will be the best resource.
you can also google the washington website (probably: state.wa.us) and get some answers there.

Your best bet is to contact the courts and ask them these questions. They are the ones who will process your ticket and will know all the laws and regulation. You should also ask the courts if you are allowed to take a driving school class. This will prevent your insurance from going up and points from being placed on your license. Just make sure you get the courts permission before doing so. If you don’t the courts will reject your driving school certificate. Good luck! |

I cannot imagine that Florida is the only State that has a table on the back of the ticket to show you how much to pay if that is the way you want to go.
I do believe that most people do not read the FRONT of the ticket, let alone the back.
Why deffer it. You were in a hurry to get there, pay it quickly too. |
