Can I get a Law Enforcement Job with a Bad Conduct Discharge?

I am in the military and am looking at a BCD soon. I had been in the military for 3yrs. 7ms. with a clean record and a Good Conduct Medal and a Tour to Iraq. One night me and my friends got drunk and caused alot of damage to property at the golf course on base and some damage to property off base. I am currently awaiting a court martial which my lawyer told me would be a special due to my cooperation and paying off some of the damage. I am a cop in the military and wanted to be a cop when I got out next year. Is there any way I could someday be a cop?

No, most police departments will not be interested in someone with disciplinary problems on their record. Remember that a Courts Martial is essentially a criminal trial and a conviction. Most criminal convictions, short of minor misdemeanor convictions automatically eliminate the possibility of employment as a police officer. |

Any professional police agency will require an 'honorable' military discharge from all applicants.
You might find some small agency that might consider you, but it's doubtful.

Well you sound like the idea candidate for most police agencies. Cops do stuff like this all the time and you'll fit right in with them. It may help to have a charge of violence or abuse so when you bust some old lady on her way to the doctors office you can throw her down on the sidewalk and give her a good stompdown for not being able to remember where her auto insurance card is. |
