Its funny, I was in Criminal Justice class, and got out due to a teacher. Now I am in dental assianting and after finishing DA course I want to be a dental hygienist. But can I still be a police officer while having another job?

my 3rd shift operator here at the chemical plant is a city cop during 1st shift
he works 2 jobs because the force doesn't pay enough but it has great benefits but we also live in a small town as well population 130.000 with 26.700 active police officers
so he only gets to work around 30hrs a week with no overtime

Police officer is full time, often over time. The overtime is higher pay, so you'll want to OT as a cop as often as you can. It is like 2.5 times pay for things like directing traffic. So no, you really can't have a second job and be a cop. |

Clean teeth for a living.
Being a Police Officer is a demanding job with lots of overtime/report writing/court.
Your Sergeant won't look kindly on you saying to you to clock out to be at the dentist's office to pick plaque.
Besides 99% of police departments have a policy forbidding it.
If you like cleaning teeth, do that for a living. You don't sound like you are cut out to be a cop anyways. |

I think it depends on what state you live in. I know here in GA you cant but in other states you can. You better check with with the department. The person that will be your superior officer will be able to tell you for sure. It may just be that it cant be in the same field. That's the way Alabama does. |
