Can I notify the court that a probation officer is not doing his job? I'm in Michigan.?

I know a person that has been in and out of rehab, does not follow any of the probation restrictions that is listed on OTIS. He drinks, drives (no license), does not work, does not pay child support and the probation officer does not follow up and make sure he is doing the things he is suppose to. The probation officer does not do drug/alcohol checks? I believe our taxes pay the Probation Officer's wages and I feel if I was NOT doing my job, I would be fired and I believe this person should loose his/her job.
They are not doing what they should be.
How can I turn the Probation Officer in along with the person breaking his probation. Mt. Pleasant, Michigan!

This is my business as the person that is on probation has stole my neices truck. He went to jail and when he came out he threatened her and our family.

you can file a grievance against this probation officer. But double check yourself. Is this really what you wanna do? Get your friend into more trouble... He will get busted in due time on his own...

You can try to contact the Human Resources Dept. of the court, or like someone else said, talk to someone in the courthouse, they can most likely help you.

You are right, everyone is expected to do well at work or they lose their job. Why should a probation officer be any different?

You would be better served to contact his supervisor or the Dept. of Child Support enforcement. Notifying the court directly will not do anything. You can also notify the Dept. of Motor Vehicles.

How do you know that the probation officer is not doing his job? Do you know if there is a court order for mandatory drug testing? If not, then the probation officer has no cause to give one if this "person" shows up sober. If he has no job, then he can't pay child support, and how do you know if he isn't looking for a job? It's not illegal to drink, even if you are on probation just as long as you keep the peace.

Your best chance of getting something done is to notify the Judge who put this person on Probation. As for the Probation Office, you can notify the District Attorney in that area. Also, all County Offices have their own version of Internal Affairs. Contact the Department in your area. These are the people who basically police, the police and probation to keep them honest.

If this doesn't work, contact law enforcement in your area and file a complaint. It will then be routed to the internal investigations that handles the probation department in your area.

Yes. Find out the officer's supervisor and tell all. These people are under yearly review and these things should be looked into. Find out who his supervisor is and voice these same complaints.

What about the 'person' who is committing the violations??? How do you know that he has court ordered testing for alcohol/drugs? How do you know the probation officer is 'not doing his job'???

All these people that tell you that you are ridiculous are probably doing the same thing your friend is. I have been in your boat. I have two children by a man that is in/out of jail, doesn't pay child support/medical insurance or anything. My children are 7 and 10 and we've not ever received anything! I have raised them on my own since my oldest was 2 and I was pregnant with my 7 year old. He's on probabtion for 7 DUI's/theft/driving on a suspended, etc. He's even been on the work program (where you have to show proof you work, to be let out of jail) and the child support office still does nothing! I have a court order, he is in violation and I too, have contacted his probation officer and have not had a return phone call (I call daily). I would love to let it go, however, I don't get the opportunity to walk away from my children and their needs, so why should he?
