Can U.S. citizen be arrested for using fake social security number?

Are illegals going to face consequences for breaking the law by buying fake or real social security numbers that are not theirs?? ONLY social security administration gives out SSN's, using fake SSN's is against the law. American law states that "ignorance of our laws will be no exuse to break our laws".

YES, it's illegal & has happened/is happening to my husband, an illegal alien has used/is using his name a Social Security # to work legally, which has caused us NUMEROUS problems & expense proving it was NOT him who made SOOO much income, like $50,000 a year at all these jobs & it's Difficult for my husband, kinda Impossible, for my husband to get another Social Security card since his wallet with his State ID & Social Security card in it was lost/stolen - Social Security requires an Original State ID from Motor Vehicles to get a replacement Social Security card & there's a limit as to how many Social Security cards you can get in your lifetime & he's been told he's reaching his limit, Meanwhile we Don't Even Know if this Illegal Immigrant using his Identity has Ever received 1 from Social Security! And we tried the Police near us, the FBI (who's SUPPOSED to deal with Identity Theft) AND the Police near the Illegal Alien's last known address to us (who told us to go to our local Police, who would Then contact them), it's been like AT LEAST 8 - 9 M"?3$- a we STILL haven't received any help! So, Yes, it's against the law, it's Identity Theft, will they get arrested for it, NOT Likely, Unless, POSSIBLY, they use that information to get credit in the LEGITIMATE owner of the Social Security card's name & run up a bill (I was told it's not really a crime unless it's financial & ruined his credit or something by the Police near me! But That was a LIE, Just the Police being LAZY!)

Rant all you want but even in my town where we cannot ask about being legally here we arrest anyone and everyone for identity theft if they get caught using a fake SSN.
Have been for at least 31 years that I know of.

The answer to this is mixed: A recent SCOTUS ruling (Flores-Figueroa v. U.S) made it difficult to prosecute. Per the court the DA must prove that the misuser of a name or SSN had intent to defraud and individual due to the way Congress worded the law. It seems that if you just use a fake SSN to get a job then there was not intent of fraud just lying?

Yes they can, it's fraud and it involves government fraud. Local police would likely not have any involvement, but rather F.B.I or ICE. They can get arrested for using fraudulant SS cards also.

What if u give a fake SS number and have to go to court will they pick it up in court
