Can a male cop search a female?
My friends are having a disagreement one friend says female cops need to search females the other says no.Who is right.Please they are giving me a headache.

We are in Massachusetts andRhode Island

If the officer has reason to believe that he or another person is in ANY danger, he has the right to search a female. The officer is taught in the police academy the proper way to do it. Most of the time the officer will ''cuff'' a female until a ''female officer'' arrives to do a body search.

I think a female cop is preferred but not required to search a female. Not totally sure though.

its preferable to match up boys:boys and girls:girls.......it may be a dept policy as well......but theres nothing that says it HAS to be that way (in my state anyways)

It depends on what you mean by a search. A 'pat down' for weapons will be conducted by the officer on the scene, regardless of gender. A strip search is NEVER conducted 'in the field' and is nearly always conducted by a member of the same gender as the suspect. There are MANY levels between the two and the rules vary based on DETAILS of the individual situation.

Yes. Usually in an emergency since there are so many female officers today.

Usually they would ask the female herself if she has anything on her and if she does if she can get it herself. If they believe she has something and won't give it up they will need a female cop, male cops never (atleast that I've seen) physically search a female (including patting down and in-clothe search)
