That is totally legal.
Some departments have policies recommending "high visibility" patrol, but that has no legal bearing on the charges. |

If you've broken the law - sure. |

Yes he can. It's the same principal as a Motorcycle cop hiding behind a sign with a radar to catch speeders. You shouldn't be speeding anyway!!! lol |

Yes. Cause it's the hidden law for police officers. To catch speeders. |

I once heard, several decades ago, that police were no longer allowed to completely hide from traffic in order to catch speeders, but then, some time after that, I think that got reversed because too many speeders were getting by with their crime simply because they learned how to "correct" their driving habits as they passed a very obvious "speed trap", so, laws, or PD policies, were changed back to it being okay to hide from traffic in order to catch speeders. In my personal opinion, I think that to hamper officers from catching speeders by making them stay clear out in the open so habitual and occasional speeders can "sneak by" them is totally ridiculous, and hampers any serious law enforcement in traffic. Since my son-in-law was a police officer in a nearby town, I like to see laws and policies set so he can do his job without being hamstrung. My neighbor, who was a Texas Highway Patrolman, felt this way too, but now he's dead after he pulled out on a highway to pursue a speeder and he was "blindsided" by an 18-wheeler who didn't see him. That fatality left one young wife, now widow, three very young sons who are tragically missing their dad, and one daughter, who was born after he was killed and will never know her dad at all. God Bless you. |

Yes, the officer may ticket you |

Certainly -if you break the law.
Why would him being hidden keep him from writing a ticket? The law is the law, even when you can't see the police. |

absolutely there is no law that prevents a police officer from trying to hide as far as i know there are only limitations as to where they may hide. (for instance not on private proporty w/out permission or right infront of a bar) |
|

SandmanX

It is absolutely legal and necessary to do so in some 'low visibility' patrols conducted to improve the chances of actually catching anyone in the act.
I doubt anyone would be breaking the law with a police officer standing in full view at the street corner right?
Hope it helped. =) |

It really depends in the state/county/city you live in. For instance... in the city I live in they have to be visible for a police officer to radar your speed but in a neighboring city that rule does not apply. Besides, you should not be speeding anyways. |
