i have a $200 ticket due in a few days. problem is im unemployed and have no money to pay it. tried looking for a phone number to call on the registry of motor vehicles website but i have nothing. got busted in MA.
is it possible to extend the time?

i was given 20 days to pay it - not 3 months like some people think.

Just curious but if you're unemployed how are you paying for car insurance? And gas? How were you driving the vehicle in the first place?
Either way, I haven't heard of anywhere that only gives you "20" days to pay... if you still have the option to take it to court, that's probably your best bet...it will at least buy you more time. |

In my state you are allowed one continuance. But that only delays it by 60 days. If you are broke, and talk real nice to the judge, he may put you on a payment plan. I have seen it happen. |

Your best bet is to contact the courts and ask them these questions. They are the ones who will process your ticket and will know all the laws and regulation. You should also ask the courts if you are allowed to take a driving school class. This will prevent your insurance from going up and points from being placed on your license. Just make sure you get the courts permission before doing so. If you don’t the courts will reject your driving school certificate. Good luck! |

Okay, they didn't just give you two days to pay it. You had PLENTY of time and you're waiting until the last minute to take care of it, the sign of the irresponsible buffoon.
You can get an extension but you need to get ahold of them right now and quit putting off stuff until the last minute. I suspect you do this a lot.
You can also request a payment plan which they do quite easily - something you should have looked into three months ago when you first got the ticket instead of waiting until the very last minute. |

When I lived in California they let me extend my $200 speeding ticket. I got another last june and they gave me a year to pay it off. Problem is I've not been able to save any money and it's a $987 wreckless driving ticket. (Speeding 140mph on a blank highway lol.) I hope they'll let me extend it a bit more, I don't know though, it HAS been a year. I don't see why not though, they'd rather you pay the ticket with time then not at all. Go to the court and ask them there if you can't find the number... Depending on how far MA is from you. I'm in Ohio now, so going to California court isn't so easy for me either. I hope I can figure something out. Good luck with that. |
