Can i get in trouble for a crime i commited a Year ago?

Last year beginning of 8th grade me and a couple of my buddies decided to spray paint ***** al over an elementary school. And it happened to another school also. But just last weekend it happened to that first school again, and the police questioned me about it since apparently "my name came up". So i admittedto the first one which i really did do, but they think i did the others i know i didnt so i'm fine with that. But can i be charged with the first time even thought it happened more than a year ago?

Yes. There are very few crimes left that you could commit that have a, "STATUTE of Limitations". A Statute of Limitations is (was) once a legal concept used to prevent the State from being able to terrorize people by keeping them in fear of prosecution forever. Most places now have quietly abolished them- it always helps the State to be able to get as much money as it can by arresting a person for a crime they have committed 500 years ago (LOL)! FYI, at one time, all states had a Statute of Limitations on MURDER (usually 7 years, if you had not left the State!).
A belated hint, here- NEVER admit ANYTHING to the Police, when questioned by them. There is a reason for that famous statement, "You have the right to remain silent..."; Officer Friendly is dead and gone; these days, the police are all about convictions- and will use ANYTHING YOU SAY to try to hang you for a crime! |

yes you can. Doesn't matter when you committed the crime its if you commit a crime. You wont get heavily charged though. maybe just a fine and community service probably. |

Yes you can be charged and it does matter when a person commits a crime. There are "statue of limitations" on most crimes but for the "capital offenses" (Homicide etc.) which have no time limitations. Time limitations are set state to state so it depends on where you live in the US. Also you didn't state your age but most 8th graders are classified as "Juveniles" and in most states the punishments sentenced for a misdemeanor (what you did) are minimal. |
