Can i have a police officer arrested?

A few days ago I had a dispute with a neighbor and I called the local police..2 came, a rookie and his training officer. me and my neighbor were screaming at each other the officers were yelling too, mostly to be heard over our craziness at one point i screamed at my neighbor and the rookie officer told me to "shut the **** up" caught up in the moment I said "Or what?!" he flipped out that collapsible baton thingy and in doing so he hit my 3 year old son the the head knocking him down and causing him to receive 19 stitches...obviously i was in a complete rage and yelled at my wife to call 911 and ask for a ambulance and STATE police officer. "because I want this officer arrested" ..(i dunno if they would do that..but i atleast wanted to file charges)...when my wife took her cell phone out the other officer grabbed her took the phone and put her in handcuffs "for obstructing justice"..long story short not one of us were arrested and my son was left bleeding and crying in my driveway until they left and ONLY then were we free to get him attention

wow thanks for the quick responce guys...I should say that YES i was wrong for saying "or what" I was out of line, no argument here..and NO i dont believe he hit him on purpose, his little head just got in the way of the baton..and it was very apparent that they cuffed my wife to keep her from calling..she hadnt even said a word to anyone up to that point, and yes the one i "treatened" cuffed me at that point too..and was put in the back of the car, probally for the best because cop or no cop, hurt a little kid..MY kid, i would have donr something stupid..but it would have felt good though

You can sue the police dept for medical bills etc... see a lawyer!

I'd get the local news involved. I'd be sooo pissed off, I'd want to hurt that cop myself! But don't!

maybe you can sue a police officer. report it to the police department and they'll deal with it. either fire or suspend him.

police are not above the law, and if your story is accurate and you have witnesses, of course you can have him charged - go for it. I am a police officers widow and they have rules and protocols that must be followed, a bit like the marines "they expect a higher standard" and the officer you dealt with certainly let the side down.

with the two sides being cordal for the sake of the child you may be able to see justice.

He was out of line. If your case is tossed called the local media or NPR radio.
photos and hospital docs will help your case

Dude you should chill out and not be such a hothead. I feel sorry for your son. He must see you flipping your lid alot. You might consider really trying to set a decent example for him to follow instead of the Jerry Springer contestant you profess to be.

You need to contact the governing authority of that police department. I have a lot of mates that are coppers and thats well out of line. They will investigate it but be warned, the police look after their own...

i don't see why you cant,, i would get me a lawyer and do everything i could if he hurt your child,,he was innocent,,and that was doing their job wrong when they hit your son,,poor kid,,i be so mad and angry just like you when it comes to my child..i hope you can get justice..

I would definitely try.Get a good lawyer and try to get the cop on Aggravated battery on a minor and threatening a civilian. Do bring up the incident with the cell phone. Those police officers were out of control and need to at least have a suspension and pay for your sons medical bills.

BEWARE: This case might work or it might not. Judges tend to favor police and other law officials out of a "Professional Courtesy." Which is completely unfair to the regular man.

File a complaint with Internal Affairs at the state level and they will investigate. Get your neighbor to testify as painful as it may be due to whatever dispute you are in. So it is your neighbor, wife and yourself along with 19 stitches on your son against two cops words. Good luck I really mean that.

Police are abusing power coast to coast, most are good men but the evil ones are the ones in power and control the rest.

lets just say the police officer program is too short to pick out the rotten ones..

wow i cant belivethat. i would defiantly take it to court. as your neighbor if he could in any way be a witness and take those pigs to court. last year my lil 13 year old cousin was arrested for allegedly having a bag of crack and smoking a pipe. so i got him a drug screen and he passed so i took them to court. when my cuz said he never even see a bag of dope the judge said to bring the Evidence, but when the bailiff went to the evidence room to get the crack and pipe, he couldn't find it so the case was droped.

Probably not! I had a guy cop search me once and he was supposed to call a female cop to search me since i'm a girl. There was nothing I could even do about that b/c he took me to the side of the car so that it would be on tape.

There has got to be a higher up you can turn to. Maybe the media is the best way to get the attention, I am not sure. Me, I would ask the Lord to work it out and show me the way. I just don't understand why they didn't attend to the little boy and forget about the dispute, unfortunately maybe that was God's way of stopping the dispute and then the poor child suffers. Kids have a way of bouncing back though, I am sure there is a lesson behind all of this to be learned.

sounds to me like you at best obstructed the officer, at worst threatened him. Here's a novel idea...when the police tell you to shut up, shut your mouth.

Get a lawyer and have the lawyer get the video out of the cruiser.

The video will tell the tale...and determine if you have a case.

It's funny how people sometimes "misremember" important details. The tape should refresh your memory.

I have to wonder what sort of officer would handcuff someone for no earthly reason like that.....
