In California you can put yourself through one of the many public police academies. Doing so often makes you more attractive as a candidate because any agency that hires you does not have to pay to put you through the academy and can instead start you right off in their in-house/FTO program. Often times if you are a strong enough candidate you will attract interested agencies while you are still in the academy. I have heard of several people who began academies 'non sponsored' and got picked up while still in the academy.
Some academies in California are 'in house' - for instance, LAPD has its own academy - and I do not know if they accept non-sponsored candiates (or even non-LAPD candidates for that matter) in the academy itself. |

Sure you can.. In Texas, that's the way it done, unless it's a big department that has it's own academy. Here's a link thru TCLEOSE that has approved academy's listed. After you graduate, you can challenge the test. You have 2 years to get a Job, good luck. |

No. Never heard of a person doing it. There would be nothing in it for a law enforcement agency to allow you to attend an academy run by them. |
