there is what we call a just war. A war is just if it benefits the common good. I think the war currently going on is a just war, and it benefits the common good and thus peace. War is necessary sometimes, especially with terrorists, the only solution is combat.

cosaxteacher
I think so. After all, sometimes war is the last resort to achieve peace.

Yes, because sometimes you need war in order to achieve peace. Although some people don't understand it.

yes_its_me
Absolutely! If you can support the use of force to keep criminals at bay, then why can't you support the use of force to keep invaders out of your country. War can be offensive and defensive. Supporting the defensive role does not make you a war monger. The balance of power is the best way to deter war. Any aggression should be unacceptable. We under George Bush have become the aggressors. That is not right, however if we were invaded by a hostile force we would be justified in responding with the force necessary to preserve our community.

yes ....when it's ultimate outcome is to bring peace...i understand your question, i've had to ask myself that question sooo many times!!!

occasionallyrowdy
Yes, I am committed to peace, but fully support the war. I have a son fighting in Iraq now, and both of us are not the type of people who go out looking for a fight. In the bible are many instances of "war" being waged for the greater good, and to quash evil.

crazy8
Yes. Peace can only be achieved by destroy all the threat to it throw violent war. Think about WWII. How did the allies spread peace and democracy. By killing the Axis.

no...but than again, the war can be the upbringing of peace..It all depends on what the war is about..need more info. sorry

Yes

of course....
i think i fall into that category.

i am a firm believer in peace, however, being a military wife i have seen first hand how much money (most) of the troops make while overseas and it significantly aids their families here to pay car payments, house payments (if off base), clothes and simply food....

if my husband went to iraq again, which he wouldn't mind in the least, we would be practically debt free just from one deployment.

sure, they are selfish reasons, i admit that, but i can say that the war is happeneing whether we like it or not and why shouldn't us military families make the most of it.
of course, i wish it wasn't happening at all and i'd rather be in debt than have my husband's life in danger, but fortunately, for us, when he's deployed to Iraq, he is in very limited danger.

it's hard to live your life with no gray areas....

take care.

EDIT:
what i said before was a personal comment....
i can also make an abstract comment...

at times war needs to occur when the "common good" is at stake. You can define for yourself the "common good". For me, it is instances like mass genocide in WWII, or terrorist threats upon thousands or millions of innoccent people, like today.

if someone is being attacked and you have the power to stop them, yet you stand by and allow the injustice to take place, then are you better for being "at peace" or are you worse for not aiding your fellow human??
once again, there's that pesky gray area....

nice question. i like pondering deep thoughts mid-day...it's a nice break from the mundane.

once again...take care.

Yes....sometimes the only way to reach a peaceful solution is through a war.....

stanleys_2001
ABSOLUTELY!... War is sometimes the ONLY method of obtaining peace.

the slogan for peace is no to war, there cannot be peace if you support war

Yes. Just go ask those "peace" protestors who attack the police, spit on our troops, and assault those they don't agree with.

digileet
Yes. The best defense is a good offense. For example, there is no war in America, but there is one in Iraq. By waging war, you are ensuring that you have peace for the future.

bildymooner
Yes, War can bring peace.

Peace through strength
War is sometimes a necessary evil

squrrelfeeder@yahoo.com
Yes, one can have peace while supporting war. Pray for peace and the war will come to an end. Pray for the men and women who serve our country for our freedom. Pray for those who ask them serve our country. Pray for there families whose child or other half is fighting our country. Prayers work.Prayers is the only thing that will stop wars.
