Can policemen write tickets out of their jurisdiction?

I often see policemen from other cities or jurisdictions than where I am driving, and I slow down or drive more cautiously. Can they even write me a ticket though?

They do not normally patrol outside their jurisdiction, so if you see them, they are present doing a follow up investigation, attending court, or picking up a warrant, so they will not be looking for violations anyway.
There are times when they are requested for mutual aid. For example, for the recent funeral services in Oakland and Philadelphia, they would request some other agency to patrol their streets so the entire department could attend the services. |

In most places. Most of the time what you are seeing is a cop that followed someone out of his town in order to write a ticket for a crime that occurred within the town. Doesn't matter where the ticket was written. It often matters where the crime occurred. |
