On my way home today I Stopped, and turned off the engine, in front of my walgreen's to return my red box dvd, along with about 3 other cars. Problem was that we were all stopped in a fi rezone. Well a few seconds later a woman in a truck backs into me. She gets out and I tell her there was no damage so to forget about it. Suddenly she turns sour and says "oh no, we are calling 911 you are parked a firezone." So she proceeds to get on the phone and try to explain the situation (while cconvenientlyleaving out the part of her hitting me) the police don't seem too intersted. I told her I was leaving (my daughter was sick, feverish and crying in back seat). She then tells me not to make her block me in! I told her I was going, adn as I drove off she gave them my plate number. Can i really get a ticket by just her calling them?

Yeah, but she hit me, adn I said no problem I am talking about the firezone thing.

You have nothing to worry about. She hit you, you have no damage, and you are allowed to leave. Accidents are only reportable if there is over $500 in damage. The drivers also have the option of settling it themselves. I have been through this may times in my career. If you are parked illegally, and someone runs into your vehicle, they are still at fault for the accident. Parked illegally or not, a stationary vehicle doesn't move and can't hit another vehicle. But it doesn't make it ok that you parked that way. For insurance sake, the one who struck the parked vehicle is in the wrong. If it was ok to strike a parked car you could drive down the street, hit every parked car you see, and get away with it. You are not going to get a ticket for the fire zone. It would have to have been witnessed by the officer. Don't worry about it. You're fine. If I was her, I wouldn't be calling the police after I hit someone. |

The worst that can happen is she will get into trouble
She hit you
If you can't see a parked car, you shouldn't be driving
Also, if there were other cars there, there is no chance of you getting into trouble as you were following the crowd
Also , if she has no proof, its not a real case - People don't get charged without real evidence
However, there may have been CCTV?
But that would have seen her hitting you
I doubt the police will take any interest, as they have more important issues to be worrying about than some daft woman who tries to get you into trouble for something that is her fault |
