Can the cops beat you up when your drunk/druged?

in high school i was arrested and the cop that did it left bruises all over my arms and upper body in the process also he said some really innappropriate things for a 14 yr old.
My mother filed a complaint and they photographed my bruises and did a full investigation on it.
Well the officier who arrested me was suspended for 3 weeks for it, and told if anything needed to be done with me again he was to call another police officer to handle it.
Thats really all they can do unless he was beaten very badly or something crazy the cop will probley only get suspended... But it will help in firing him later as he will build a history of beating people up and his file will end up being 3 inches thick with liget complaints.

Cops don't beat people up unless they deserve it. If he was mouthy or physical with them, he probably deserved it.

They aren't allowed to but in NYC cops are more corrupt then the people so they do it sometimes. The law is they can't search you without a reason and they can only pat you down with probable cause. At times they will rough you up and if you restrain they may take it further. I was arrested at school once for accidentally breaking a desk and I was treated harshly (i.e. handcuffed, pushed, thrown etc.). Overall cops have enough power in court that they can say you were threatening them and they had to re-act. If I were you I would tell your friend to forget about it and avoid police.

cops can and do what ever the heck they want to you depending on who's looking. Your friend can say he was beat up all he wants but unless there is tons of witnesses to back up his story he might as well save his breath. If there is obvious signs of injury the cops will justify it by saying he was resisting arrest. Is it legal for them to lose their temper and pound on a submissive suspect? Hell no, but they do it anyway,

if your friend was drunk/on drugs and resisted arrest then the police officers can use force to get him into custody..

i wouldnt put much stake in what your friend said...after all he was drunk and high on drugs...he probably dont remember what happened...

Put it this way cops can do what ever they want and get away with it including murder. The best thing to do is to do what they say and dont give any attitude. I have nothing against cops but you just have to keep yourself safe from the bad ones. I always keep a video camera in my car for my own protection. It comes in handy if you ever need to plead your case even for a traffic ticket.

in some countries the cops can kill if the suspect any thing.

even if your Friend didn't do nothing the cops could just make something up e.g. he had a weapon or he tried to fight back then their allowed to beat him up

More then likely your friend resisted arrest and was subdued into compliance. They cannot legally do this unless they have a person who is not following the orders they are asking for in compliance with the arrest.
An officer or officers may use only the amount of force needed to make the arrest. Sometime one who is drunk or high, does not realize what they are doing nor do they rationalize what they have done. Then this makes the arrest even more difficult.

They cant just beat you up. It is possible that your drunken drugged friend might have been resisting and or physically been attacking the police. If he was behaving in such a way then the cops have a right to restrain him , if he gets hurt in this process then that is no ones fault but his own.

He could've been sore from resisting. Not really beat you up, but they can give you a little... "nudge" to get you to do what they want.
Oh and FYI, drugs? Sure.. drugs do a lot of stuff, I'm sure that has a lot to do with him being sore.
Also, when a person is on drugs they feel less pain, their adrenaline is going crazy, heart rate is going nuts, so the cop might have needed to do more damage in order for him to feel it. That is if your friend was resisting.. which is more than likely if he was on drugs.

No they can't do this. They can't beat you up period. The only way they can touch you and it be at least justifiable is if they're defending themselves. your friend should report them.
