I just went down to the dmv here in mass to renew and i found out that i owe a ticket totaling over a thousand dollars. for having an out of state license # in their databse? from 96? i've lived in the state since that time. the license they have was the one i gave them when i moved to this rotten state.. does this make sense? now when i talk to those people they act like it's justifiable..there's no interest on the citation either? i seriously need help..it's not a default ticket..like a police officer issued it to me or anything...or i would've requested a hearing all day on that..what could i do? who should i talk to?

if you lived in the same jurisdiction where the ticket was issued, then they should have served it to you. The only reason they have not to serve you with it is that they could not find you after making every reasonable attempt. IF on top of that, they have been selling you insurance without ever mentioning the ticket, you can use that as grounds to appeal it because since it was over 12 years, the debt may no longer be valid. Therefore, you have a few grounds to appeal it and you may be successful. If the appeal does not go your way, try to offer them to settle the debt for a lump sum that you can afford. Good luck |

Did you replace your license? Do you have the paperwork? If the ticket was issued erroneously, you can take care of it (with some hassle, since it's the DMV). However, if you never replaced the license, you were breaking the law. A "ticket" does not have to be issued. |

The idiots telling you to fight it of course don't tell you how.
There is no way to fight it. This is why you take care of your tickets in any state. When you go the DMV they show up.
So yes, it makes perfect sense. You thought just because you were leaving the state you could get out of it?
There is no way to fight it. You can ask to make payments for the ticket, but that's your only option. Next time learn what the word "responsibility" means. |
