Can the opposition reduce knife crime when they take power?

"Fatal stabbings in England and Wales have risen to their highest level in three decades, say the Conservatives."

There's only one way to stop all the knife and gun crime - regardless of WHO is in government and that is life imprisonment for anyone found carrying either of these weapons without EXCELLENT reason and without their being properly and completely wrapped/packed/disarmed as the case may by, Never mind the PC Brigade, Human Rights and any other of the assorted do-gooders who keep popping up - build more prisons if necessary and make them places of punishment - with no TV/mobile phones or internet access - not, as they are at the moment, somewhere for the so-called street-wise monsters we have bred and imported to live a life of what is practically luxury.
Said PC Brigade and assorted do-gooders will find the thumbs down button just below ¬

The problem is not just knife crime, it is a whole generation of kids growing up thinking their actions will have no consequences as they cannot be punished for wrongdoing.

A lack of discipline and authority in the hands of adults is a noose around the neck of this country. And no, I don't think one political party will improve things as they are two faces on the same coin. This is a problem that needs to be addressed as a country and individuals.

Why should they be able to--their policies are largely in operation at the moment, ones of totally unfettered Capitalism. With that, you get an increasing poverty gap, increasing pressure on individuals, increasing domestic abuse, increasing instilled feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, increasing feelings of powerlessness, increasing need for devices to be able to function, in an environment of increasing perceived threat, therefore an increase in the carrying of protection (knives included), and an increased inclination to USE it (lest someone accuses you having CAUSE to use what you're carrying--and you DIDN'T), and, ultimately, the increase in knifecrime you mention.
Sign of the British times--if you VOTE for unfettered greed (Tory or New Labour), you've no right to complain about the predictable fallout.

The Answer has the answer.
I agree and would imagine some prisoners would prefer to get out of their cells and have an opportunity for exercise and fresh air clearing ditches and overgrown ponds, sweeping streets...anything to give them some self worth.

NO!...they will do nothing. its not a problem for them. in fact its good, because the more fear you inject into the public the less notice they take of things going on within politics. the only way to end violent crime in this country is to clear out all illegals completely.....instantly deport all criminals + their families if they have been here under ten years. and put a ten year minimum sentence of hard labour on those that are convicted. the death penalty, or at 'least life meaning life' for those that kill. and to make parents legally accountable for their ferrel brats. IE: if a brat is caught breaking a window. £1000. fine to the parents. or two months in prison. take the brat to a boot camp for the same period. its common sense to come down like a ton of bricks on parents that wont control their children. and of course round up and imprison all human rights and PC merchants who have caused this social cancer to develop in the first place. its either face the problem politicaly. or the British public will have to demand the right to bare arms to protect its self. you cant have it both ways. because our police force is frankly laughable and woefully inadiquate to protect them selves, let alone the public.

nope knife crime is like crack cocaine in the US inner cites in the 80s and 90s . It was started by the shadow government as population control and to destroy social cohesion. The Conservatives are controlled by the same shadow government.

the tories have the answer to eveything but nothing cameron and osborne are windbagsof the first order,we have heard ducks fart before and seen the results of tory governments, stabbing can only be stopped by hard policing and the policy of stop and search, then we hear the shout of the do gooders must not upset the mindless cretins that carry weapons that is an infringement of their rights what about thev rights oft the rest of us,the tories will have no more luck than the labour until we stop puusy- footing about bring back hard labour instead of colour televisions, one cold meal a day

SEC ONE
How will they do that? you can´t ban knives, you will need to personally monitor every individual on the street i.e stop and search so how exactly can anyone reduce knife crime? those that feel the need to carry a knife will no doubt at some point use it and unless they are apprehended before the act how can you reduce something which would be impossible to police? The opposition have not a clue as to how to reduce crime in general and as a direct result it is now to a degree out off control. The sentences given by the courts are a joke and the regimes in prison do not go far enough to punish through strict discipline as opposed to TVs in cells and all the other mod Com's. When these people are caught and bought before the courts they should automatically be given substantial prison sentences.

erm... didn't you already ask this ?

Here's my answer again....

"Depends on how you measure it.

I'm quite sure they will find a way to show that they have reduced it.

Facts and figures need consistency in application to work, and the government keeps moving the goalposts on how 'knife crime' is counted.

For example; if I assault you and during the course of which I say "...off or I'll stab you", is it a knife crime ? If I produce a knife to show you, purely for interest reasons, is it a knife crime ? If I find a knife in the street, and then someone attempts to rob me, but I produce the knife, is it a knife crime ? One survey asks a number of young people if in the last 12 months they have carried a knife. Of course, they never asked what kind of knife, what for etc etc so almost all answered yes!

Mr Cameron wants to relieve the police of bureaucratic burden, and yet will still need to count 'knife crime' in the same way, or he will not be able to demonstrate a cut in crime.

Labour introduced the National Crime Recording Standards a few years ago now, essentially to change the way crime is recorded. This blew out the water any chance of showing that crime had increased, as the answer would always be that crime is recorded more readily now than it ever has been, so it looks as though it's rising.

I suspect Mr Cameron would revise the NCRS, and not require all crimes to be counted so readily, and therefore a drop would be apparent.

I don't personally believe that knife crime has increased substantially at all. It's a lovely example of a media spiral.

I've attached a report that talks about a lot of the problems with counting knife crime."

Three Card Monty
Yes, I think they can. The Tories say that they will increase police stop and search powers. Conversely, Labour say that violent crime is down 40% from 1997.

The only way to reduce knife crime and cease proliferation of weaponry in the criminal underworld, whether the weapons are weilded by children or adults, is to de-incentivise violent crime in the UK. which is mostly centred around the sale of drugs.

I don't like drugs but they remain the only reason our children are carrying large amounts of money and thus targets for violent crime.

Either legalise, tax and stimulate our economy by the sale of dangerous narcotics in controlled environments (like Boots?) or ramp up the jail time on any criminal over sixteen who can be proven to associate with any 'mule' under the age of consent.

By way of example, smoking was forbidden at my school and the penalties for being caught smoking were relatively minor on a first offense for any student, but any student over sixteen caught smoking with or enabling under sixteens was given a far harsher penalty. up to and including suspension.

let's enforce an age-barrier between the drug dealers and the children they use, keep the money and the business grown-up and prevent children from being involved in knife crime.

we all know that incidences will be far less frequent when children are not involved.
It's never been about 'respect'. there is no ideological war. all conflict is over resources. every time.

The Answer
I think the only logical answer here is for any government to step up to the mark and build more prisons and then actually make a deterrent in order to make people think twice.
As it is just now, anyone caught in possession of a knife almost certainly will not go to jail, the law should be changed and anyone caught in possession should be given a minimum term of, I say, four years. Also, take the comfort out of the prison system, these scum are there as punishment and yet they live the life of riley behind bars, Drugs freely available, Playstations, Freeview and three square meals a day. It's wrong, all of it. Adopt the American way of putting them on the streets twelve hours a day, Grafting to improve the communities that they've helped destroy through their criminal actions.

Anyway, It's very unlikely that we'll get anyone in power that would have the balls to step up to the mark and banish human rights for criminals, But If I ever run for PM can I count on your vote??

That's to be expected, with the ban on guns. Crime has to be addressed at it's causes, not it's opportunities. How would they address the causes, and what would be a politician's inducement to do so?

The whole of Britain [England, Scotland & Wales] need to get together and sort things out FAST!

They seem to be more interested to be handing out MBE's, CBE's and what-not.

This should be part of the national curriculum and get it into kids minds that it is bad at an early age instead of the kids learning about it themselves when they're in their early teens and naive.

Facile Princeps
If they want to reduce street crime bring back the Police special patrol group stop and search squads, people who carry knives should be treated the same a those who carry guns and shot on the spot..And scrap the ridiculous ASBO councils spent more money harassing motorists who dare park on a yellow line or drive in a bus lane than on street crime
