This would fall into the category of a civil debt.
They have agreed to sort out the mess they made, as they didn't then why should you pay again.
Take photos of the mess so that you have a record of it and if they did take you to a small claims court (which would cost them a couple of hundred quid) then you have proof.
Keep any texts that they send you as it could amount to harassment if they keep sending you them, if they do then tell the coppers.
I find it hard to believe that they would go to a solicitor for a haircut fee and I think its a bluff.
If it goes any further then go see the citizens advice |

Go down to the salon & ask the owner to call the police while you wait, he will bottle it - the police won't be interested. |

It depends..
If they call the police, it all depends on how the officer sees the situation. If the officer thinks a crime has been committed, you can be arrested and charged
.
How does the officer decide whether a crime has been commited or not?
If you were not happy with the haircut but just got up and and walked out without paying, then a crime has been committed and you would be arrested. If you complained then decided that you not gonna pay because it is obviously a crap job, then a crime may not be committed. If the officer thinks that there is deception, then a crime has been committed and you can be arrested. Deception can involve you deciding to complain that you are not happy with the service simply because you have already decided not to pay, in that case it would be conspiracy, and you would be arrested and charged.
If it is a hairdresser that you have being going to over a period of time and always pay for the service, but on this occasion you were not happy with the haircut, then it is obvious that there is no question of conspiracy, thus no crime, therefore a civil dispute which the complainant (the hairdresser) can go to a civil court as it is a civil debt .. the small claims court.
In your case, you had your hair cut a week earlier which you were not happy with so you went back for them to sort it out. I am assuming that you paid on the first visit. In their attempt to sort it out, they even made a worse job and you walked out without paying. You did not say you complained on this occasion, but again I am assuming you did. If you did complain and say you were not happy with it and because of that you are not paying, then the police office may see this as a civil dispute , but no crime has been committed, thus no arrest. It is a civil debt. The matter would have to be sorted out in the Small Calims court where both you and the hairdresser can have your arguments heard by a judge.
It would seems to me that you may have a stonger argument in this case.
Though this answer is by no means exhaustive, I hope it gives you at least an idea on where you are legally.
Personally, I think this hairdresser should just forget it. He knows nothing about customer service. He should be only too happy to do the best he can to make his customers happy at no extra charge, and should even offer a free cut on your next visit. If I were you, he would never see neither my business or any of my friends, or my friend's friends.
Good luck |

I would say this is a civil matter between you and the salon. |

If you're not happy with the cut the first thing they should do is offer a re style with a senior stylist, second is offer you a refund...
police can't really do anything about this, just have evidience of how you are unhappy with it i.e pictures
best thing to do is negotiate |

Tell them to call them, the police wont be interested,
They messed up your hair and havent put it right so why should you pay? |

ask them for proof of the charge they wanted you to pay, as you would have expected it to be sorted for free. |

This is a "Civil dispute" the Police will not get involved. This is not a criminal matter, it is one for civil Courts if anything but even that is doubtful. |

I would firstly take some photographs of how you hair looks now. The chap in the hairdressers thought twice about calling the police as it's nothing to do with them and now he is saying he will speak with his solicitor. Can you imagine how much it would cost to get a case to court all for the sake of a hair cut? He has a lot to learn about customer service rather that set the dogs on anyone who disagrees with the work in his salon!
Does he know your address? He probably knows your phone no., so if you are in the phone book I suppose he could trace you that way.
You could always pop into the Citizens Advice Bureau and ask for advice or the Trading Standards People at the local Council. |

im sure the saying goes customers always right! they messed your hair up twice!! why should you pay? i wouldnt worry 2much about it to be honest it wouldnt be worth their while going to court over it! they were just trying to scare you! |

I presume you paid for your cut the first time you went. If you are unhappy with a haircut then any hairdresser would happily cut it and restyle it for you free of charge. Most hairdressers would also offer you a discount on your next cut.
I do not blame you for walking out but you really should have complained before doing so.
Do you have pictures of your hair before it was cut the first time? Do you have any after it was cut the first time? I hope you have a picture of your hair now.
I suggest you contact consumer direct (uk only and link below) or your local citizens advice bureau
http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/
You could also go down to your local college's hairdressing department and get a professional opinion of one of the tutors regarding the actual haircut.
Best of luck to you and i am very sorry you have had such a bad experience with a hairdresser. There are good and bad ones in every job. |

You should not have walked out. However, if you paid for the haircut the first time, then it should be put right at no charge to you.
Talk to Citizen's Advice people about it. |

Get someone to take photos of your hair in case he does try to recover the money. I wouldn't say it was a criminal matter. The most he could do would be to take you to small claims court. You entered into a contract for service if the hair dresser hasn't provided a proper service then I would say you had a right to withhold payment or part payment. The police are unlikely to get involved unless threatening behaviour happened. It might be best though to give it until tomorrow for you to both calm down. then go back and have a chat about it. |

To keep it simple it is indeed theft of service. That means it is the same as if you picked up an item at a store and walked out.
Now you could take pictures and hire someone to represent you. But you would have to pay for that and prove the damages in court. But that would be civil damages.
The owner of the shop is correct. Walking out is a criminal matter and separate from the damages. All the salon has to do is file a police report and they will issue a warrant for theft. You could be driving down the street a year later and they might arrest you. The police could care less about the details of the case.
You best get down to that shop and work something out. |

Law is never clear cut and so there are arguments on both sides.
You agreed to a service and they provided it, so legally you must pay.
On the other hand, there is an implied contract that says a product or service must be fit for the purpose intended.
If you asked for them to cut in a particular way and they didn't, if they did an incompetent job, then you have no obligation to pay.
In addtion most hairddressers provide a free fix up service anyway, so you could argue that you assumed they would fix your hair for free. Unless they stated the price of the fix up before hand then you have no contractual or consumer affairs obligation to pay.
Basically it is an idol threat, I don't like incompetent morons who threaten me. Go back to the shop, video them screaming and insulting you, post it on YouTube with their name and watch them lose business fast. |

You can get arrested for anything. Whether it would be a lawful arrest is another question. In your case, probably. Your jurisdiction probably has a statute that would govern receiving services and refusing to pay. It is unlikely that police would intervene or seek a criminal conviction, but certainly it is possible. |

Wait for the solicitor's letter and then fight it, chances are that you wont get one. The Hairdresser may get the police involved if he can claim that you were threatening, seek out witnesses to back your case up, make sure that you have paid for the hairwashing, conditioner etc. as you have no case for refusing to pay for this element. |

No they cannot arrest you for that. It's not like you were shop lifting. You paid for it once and went back to get it fixed which he did not do. The police won't be interested in a small matter like that. He should expect you to pay if you are unhappy. |
|

they cant |

Nope, I think you're fine on that one. Unless when you walked out you damaged or stole something from the salon there's pretty much nothing they can do. |

Not for some petty thing like that. I would have done the same thing, good job. |

I am not exactly sure where you stand. If you bought an item from a shop you were unhappy with you would be within your rights to return it within a reasonable time - say 7 days. The trouble is here you can't return it in this case. However, as you went in to get it "fixed" from the first time you were clearly unhappy with the original job.
I would say that they would have trouble taking you to court over this. I would also be very surprised if the police got involved in what is essentially a civil dispute between 2 parties. So I think they are p*ssing in the wind. They were hoping to scare you into paying. |

Well there is really one question that this just boils down to, was this your intent. Apparently, it seems like you were deliberately trying to walk out with a free ride. My advice, just explain to the owner that this was a miss payment as he didn't ask for the money. Th likelyhood of getting arrested on a petty charge is slim |
|

its possible they could its theft of service but most like;lly you would be fined or somehting along that line it would mostly b a mistameanor anyway but just pay them then call the better buisness bearue and make a compliant to have them investigated if they fail the investigation they could be shut down then you win in the long run |

If it is that bad of a hair cut then you shouldn't leave until they fix it. Then when you leave you should pay the bill but give NO tip. You could get the cops called on you and more than likely the cops will just make you pay instead of arrest you, but they could if they wanted to! |
