Can the police search my home if my name was given by someone busted with pot.?

basically this kid randomly spouted 3 names, one of which doesn't even smoke, to get his charges lightened. from what ive heard, he claims i am the one who sold this pot to him (completely untrue) does this give police probable cause / the right to get a warrant and enter my home to search? if not whats gonna happen?

edit: from what i understand it was slightly under and ounce, and he had a scale. this is just rediculous, i didnt sell anything to this guy.(in fact its quite the opposite)

yes they can they can get a search warrant anytime day or night by going to a judge. if you did not sell it to him don't worry.

They will just start watching your house so just dont actually do anything illegal that will give them probable cause to actually get a search warrant to search your house

They would need probable cause and a warrant. Based on one person, it may not be enough evidence.
Also, do you own the home, or do you live there with your parents? If so, then the home owner can allow the police inside to search whatever they way, without a warrant.

If you are clean, and there is nothing in your house, you can just let the police in to conduct the search and be done with it. I'd ask them specifically where they plan on searching, and you have the right to tell them to stop at any time.

It could result in a warrant.
Someone said that you were implicated, which is probable cause. A lawyer could argue later that the spontaneous outburst was hardly a solid tip, but you are probably hoping it won't go that far.

What it does mean is that for years, they will have your name in a database of evidence---so I suggest you live squeaky clean to avoid hassles in the future.

The word of someone like that is not usually enough to illicit a warrant. However, the police may watch you if they feel the likelihood is big enough. If the was just busted with a small amount then it is unlikely that anything will happen...now if he had a huge van full and was transporting it for sale then that may change things.
Marijuana in small amounts is a minor crime, often resulting in a little fine.

Yes, it does. However, if this kid is lying, you can probably sue him for your troubles. You may be able to get criminal charges against him for lying, but you'd have to prove that he's lying.

It's a very long shot.
