Can they tow your car from church?
|
I need to park my car on an avenue with only meter parking, but I need to park it for most of the day. There is a church right there, and they must have parking in the back right (what do they do on Sundays?). If there are no signs that say "only 1hr parking" or "only parking during mass" etc., is it ok to use a space? It's only for the next week or two. (not overnight or anything) I mean will I get a ticket or towed.
Or any parking space in a lot that doesn't say "no parking" clearly, is it just assumed you can park there?

Generally, if it is a legitimate parking space in a public area (not just a space that will happen to accommodate a vehicle), and there are no signs that state otherwise or laws that have been created to limit parking, you may park somewhere.
However, if you are parking in a church's private parking lot, the church authorities can pretty much do whatever they want, just like if you were to park in someone's private driveway.
Go into the church and ask if you can park in their parking lot. If you ask permission, it will probably be granted, especially if you indicate that it will be for a limited time period and not forever. If you cannot find anyone to ask at the church (e.g. if it is closed), then leave a note on your windshield with your cell phone number or a number where you can be reached while you are parked there. Then it will be easy for someone to reach you if they have a problem with where you have parked or if they need to you move your vehicle for any reason. |

No it is assumed that it is private property and you can park there with permission or while on church business.
Go talk to the church manager and see what they say. |

You can try it but if you're asking, there must be some kind of reason why people don't park there on a regular basis. And they can tow your car from anywhere. |

Think of it this way...
The parking lot is land that church had to buy. It's their property...it's like having someone parking in your driveway because you have room.
Mostly everyone is saying you should talk to the someone in the church to get that permission from them, and that's right.
Most likely, they'll say no problem and invite you to church on Sunday. |

It is their parking lot, they can use it as they wish. Why don't you ask them? |

Any parking lot belonging to a business is considered private property. The business can allow anyone they want to park there and not allow anyone they want. Usually businesses, especially in big cities, call for tow trucks to remove vehicles parked there when they are not open. The best option would be to contact the church and ask them if they would mind if you parked there during the day when they weren't open. They may say ok and agree not to tow your vehicle if you explain your situation. Afterall, it is a church...they usually try to help people out who need it. |

I don't think I would try it. It is private property and I would guess that after the first couple of times, your car would probably start annoying people who use the lot every day for church purposes (the pastor, etc.). You'd probably end up being towed.
I know it would probably be awkward, but why not just go into the church and ask someone who works/ volunteers there for permission to park in their lot?
In a larger lot, such as at a supermarket, etc. It is very unlikely anyone would notice or care about your car as long as it is not overnight. But using the lot at a smaller establishment like a church or small strip mall is kind of tempting fate. |

The church is private propert.Unless you get the church's permission to park there, the church can have a private towing company tow you away, and you will NOT get your car back without paying a hefty towing and storage charge. This is all legal. |

be gracious enough to speak to the pastor at the church and explain your situation. he will know ahead of time and no one will be suspicious of a vehicle parked there. this will save you alot of grief if you park there and they tow. because it is a private establishement they can call to have it towed. just because my neighbor does not have a No parking sign and his space is bigger than mine can I park there? let him know of your intent and you might be surprised. I am sure he will allow it and have more respect for you being so that you asked first. |

Just go into the church or phone them during the day and ask them if it's okay to park there. I'm sure if you ask and give them your name and number they'ed be happy to help you out. It's just kind've rude if you don't ask and park anyway. That way if they do need more space for a funeral or something they can let you know. |
