Absolutely not.

You will find yourself being approached / challenged by armed police dependant on what you were doing with it.

You will then find yourself getting arrested and charged for the offence.

The Firearms Act 1968 states;

Requirement of certificate for possession of shot guns

1)Subject to any exemption under this Act, it is an offence for a person to have in his possession, or to purchase or acquire, a shot gun without holding a certificate under this Act authorising him to possess shot guns.
(2)It is an offence for a person to fail to comply with a condition subject to which a shot gun certificate is held by him.

That covers both public and private.

No it is illegal and you could be arrested for carrying a firearm. Worst thing that could happen is you come face to face with the Police Firearms Unit and have loaded weapons pointed at you or even shot dead. You must not even own a firearm of any description without being licenced by the police. If they know you have it in your house you could have a police raid on your hands. My brother in law is ex armed response unit police officer and believe me they mean the business.

It is illegal to be in posession of a shotgun without a Firearms certificate. public place or not.

Only in the United States and some countries in the middle east and africa. You can carry a weapon and in Virginia you can even carry the weapon in a restreauant. There is legislation before the state congress to permit weapons in drinking establishments. I can't wait to see the fireworks. I think they'll be able to take in their dogs, too!

Whew! Thank God for the UK gun bans! Turned your country into an utopia overnight. 10 years after disarming your citizenry, you sure didn't need 40 cameras on every street corner or anything crazy like that.
