Why so serious?
|
If they said nothing would be on your record, I'd believe them. If it is, I don't think it will blackball you from school. If it comes up in a college interview or with your parents, just own it. Say "It was stupid and I regret it." You're fine. Now try not to steal again. :) I think the MOST the fine for stealing something that costs under 5000 dollars can be is 2000 dollars. That's the most possible for an adult stealing like a TV set or an x-box 360.
Since it was such a small theft, and you were a juvenile, I can't see it being more than 100. I'd guess 50. In Canada, there is not specific crime of "shoplifting", it just goes under general theft. I'd tell your parents. Take your licks, learn your lesson. Your parents will respect you on some level for not hiding it and being a man about the situation. Everyone messes up, it's how you clean up the mess that defines your character. |

If no police were called then nothing will happen long term,
Im guessing the shop keeper has just sent a letter / called your parents.
Don't shoplift ;) |

They should be serious about the record - you didn't sign any papers. But don't do it again - it only hurts your soul.
Cheers,
LÃ¥uren - anyone can make a difference. |

These are very serious. It doesn't matter what you took, it could be a pack of gum. But most places the fine is about $200-jail. |

Don't worry about it. You got busted but believe me nothing will happen to your GPA or your record. Trust me if it had been as bad as you think you would gotten arrested and taked to jail. It's over and next time use better judgement. I you learned a great lesson. Take care. |

live and learn dude
use your 3.9 for better use ! |

Most 3.9 GPA students know the difference between effect and affect.
In America, anything you do as a minor disappears when you're 21. I would imagine it's basically the same in Canada. |

*key words*
no police called
no papers
cheap item
no picture (hell they won't remember what you look like in a week)
and say it does go to court... the fact that you have a 3.9 GPA would help you alot.
you'll probably get banned or suspended from the store, and your parents will be "disappointed" for a while.
you will not go to "hot dog on a stick" collage because you stole a bag of chips |

well if there were no cops called and you weren't charged with anything, don't worry about it.
Consider yourself lucky that they didn't give you the option of calling the police or your dad!!
I don't think they can fine you. In fact, I know they can't.
Not a legal fine anyway. They might just send you an invoice
but I think they were just trying to scare you.
Smarten up. Like my dad told me, at the rate your'e going , your not going to make it to 16!! Like, he is going to kill me if I don't smarten up !! |

If you didn't sign anything and didn't talk to any police, then you don't have to worry about it |

well you should just get a fine. It should not go on a record. If they sad that they would not record it, then that is what it should be. It's like if you were to get a ticket speeding. You just pay a fine, unless you have a history. In your case though that was 15 years ago. If that was on your record, then by today, it should be permanently off. You shouldn't worry about it though. If you are worried, maybe you should get some information from the law enforcement, or court. |

as long as you have learned from your mistakes the fine would mainly be from the shop owner or it could be from the police department for going on the call like a city tax fineyou realize that it costs the tax payers billions of dollars a year for theft/or shoplifters?learn from this please !!! enjoy the holiday |

If they are not of age give them a warning but convince them that any such info on their records will not help give them a good life. People caught doing it who are of age tatoo it on their hand, arm somewhere. . |
