Civil demand notice? permanent record? Please HELP?

Ok well my friend stole a 300$ camera from a local dive shop about a month ago, he went in the other day and the recognized him and called the police. The police came and the shop decided to press no charges and they also said that he could actually come back on the property and still shop there. Nothing was said about a civil demand notice, but the police took down all of his information so that they could finish their police report. Will anything happen to him now? Is it over? Will anything come in the mail?Will he get a civil demand notice?

The civil demand notice would be a decision the retailer makes, not the police.

A civil demand does not create a public record as long as you pay it. If you don't, it gets filed with small claims, and that court record is available to the public.
