No- what planet are you from, if it's on a public road what claim would you have to it anyway.
As a matter of fact Terri I don't need to know every law in the world just the U.K.
I will look this up and give the the actual law/act if you wish.
Look it up yourself see: Road traffic Act 1988. |

The best people to talk to about this are the police but i doubt you have a right to claim it if it is on the public highway.......... |

not unless it was abandoned on your property....just because you reported it does not make it yours. |

call your local police again and tell them it has still not moved and what can you do about it, they should be able to get in touch with the DVLA if it is causing a nuisance and find out who the woner is and ask them to remove it.
If you get no help, call the local council and ask them if they can help. |

Not a damned thing you can do until the tax runs out. Even then they won't do anything until they get round to it.
You will never have any sort of right over the car. |

Check your local laws. Abandon car laws very by location. |

The car is most likely owned by a finance company. If it was on your private property you may have a claim but otherwise that car is not yours. |

I don't think that is right. If it is parked on a public highway, and has road tax on it then there is notthing that can be done. |

Unfortunately not.
Abandoned vehicles are a local authority problem. If it was illegally parked the police have a claim over it, if not they don't have any power to do anything and it is the council you must contact.
In my experience councils are reluctant to exercise any powers they have over abandoned vehicles- but your local authority may be different.
While you probably own the land underneath the road in front of your house, if the road is operated and maintained by the local authority you don't have the same rights over anything left there that you would over the rest of your property. |

It doesn't work that way.
You have NO RIGHT or NO CLAIM to the vehicle in any manner.
You might try and get on one of the web sites that allow you to determine ownership OR ask one of your local officers for the name of the owner and contact them yourself. |

Its annoying but I don't think theres anything you can do. I'd gather all your mates together and pick it up and move it somewhere where its not going to cause trouble. |

As it is Taxed and not Reported as Stolen it is Legally Parked on a Public Thoroughfare. If it is Blocking a Driveway you can have it removed, as you cannot gain Access to your Residence, other than that you cannot remove it Legally. You could Tow it away on the Quiet in the Night time, and bash it up a little, or possibly set it on Fire when you Tow it away. The only Legal Recourse to you is to see a Lawyer ,and see if you have a Case against The Owner. |

maybe you should have the police check and see if the person it belongs to is alright or missing people just don't leave there cars something bad could have happened to that person |

You won't have any claim over it as it's on a public road, I'd report it to the council and get them to remove it before some yobs take pleasure in setting it alight :O |

i think you will find before you can claim the car the police have to wash and polish it for you. |

The simple answer is no.
As long as the car is taxed, insured and parked legally it can remain there indefinitely.
If the tax were to expire then it could be removed by the council. |

No such law in relation to motor vehicles. If you find something and hand it to the police as found property, they will give you a receipt. On the receipt it will state that after a specified time if the item remains unclaimed, you can claim it as your own. If you do not claim it, the police will dispose of it, usually at auction if it has any value. A locked motor vehicle that is street legal, i.e. displaying a current excise licence, does fall into this category. If there is no parking restrictions, the vehicle can remain until the excise licence expires, then the police can remove it. |

If it's not on your property, you can't really report it just for being an eyesore. Consider that maybe the owner has a broken leg, or is in the hospital, or is bedridden with a difficult pregnancy. Then stop looking out your window. As long as its legal and everything is current on it, and its legally parked, you can't do anything about it. |

That public road outside your property doesn`t belong to you anymore than anyother american. So consequently you can never claim the car even after 50 yrs. |

Unfortunately I can't think of a law in any form that would give you the right to claim that car. Its on public property, and at best, if its blocking something eg your drive or something it could get towed. I dont know why Troll is citing the Road Traffic Act 1988, because unless i've missed something, there is nothing in there about abandoned vehicles.
It would appear that the only right you have is to have the car removed by the local authority. But thats only if its abandoned. Get in contact with your council and see what they say about removing it ie time frames etc, but as far as I can see, there is nothing to confer rights upon you, nor do I have any reason to suspect that there is. |

sorry the road does not belong to you, its highways, as long as its mot tax and insurance, there notthing any body can do. |

No, you cannot.
It is on a public road, when the tax runs out then it will be up to the council to treat it as a abanonded vehicle who will tow it.
Its not on your property so you have no claim to it, otherwise anyone could travel around the streets in my town claiming all the un-taxed vehicles that look like they have not moved for months parked on the public roads. |

I think you dont have the right over said car but for sure you have the right to security over your sorroundings and the community. For Security reasons you have the right to compel the police to have the car be towed to their impounding are as it pose danger of FIRE, EXPLOSION, or Iit might have belonged to a gangster whic may cause risk of riots or anything untoward with in your neighborhood. |

Its legally parked. so why would you have any claim to it. If it was illegally parked the only person who would have any right to it would be the scrapyard that has the contract with your local council and he wold have to destroy it and would be breaking the law if he sold any part of the car as reusable |
