We need police. All states do. There is always room for advancement and pay raises come every year. One won't get rich but it's a nice living.

It depends on your personal preference. If your in it for the money, no. But if you believe in what your doing and love it, you would never want to give it up for anything.

Ya get to carry a gun? or ya get to help people and be of service?
If you seriously want to be a cop because you believe you can be a benefit to your community, yes ...You want to make a positive difference in your community, yes...you want to help and believe you can make a difference, yes.
It is a challenging career choice, not an easy one for a family as there is always a fear of you not coming home....but even that, some families understand that that is what their spouse CHOSE to do and they support them.
It is hard, and it is dangerous, and for some, it is the only job they had ever wanted.
Look inside your own heart to answer this question.

It is if you want it to be. If it is something you really aspire to do and you know it is for you, then yes it is a good career. But if you do not like it and are not interested in helping others and giving it a lot of dedication (cops really give up a lot of their time to be at work, extra hours and such) then it would not be good.

Do not let others tell you if it is a good one or not. YOU are the one that will make it a great career or a bad one.

It all depends on where you would want to be a cop. You should decide where exactly and look at the crime rate, death rate, and all the other rates of that city. If you live in a small town it may be difficult to run into all your old friends or your friends now if they are doing something wrong. Thats what I would have trouble with if I became a cop where I live. I would feel like a hypocrit pulling people over....anyway if you don't feel strongly about it then I would not pursue it because it is hard work and alot of determination and patience.
