Well, the cop had a right to use lethal force if needed. Your still alive though so I wouldn't be complaining too much. Go up to the department to see if you can get your guns back. If you do get them back put them away and use them in the country where there aren't as many people. You shouldn't be having a bb gun in your backyard in the city anyway. What if you missed and it hit someone? Chances are you won't hurt them but you never know... |

Find out what the laws are in your town concerning BB guns. If there is no ordinance against having them, go to the police station and request them back, being prepared to show proof that there is no law against having them.
Consider yourselves lucky. If the officers, who were initially told that you may have real guns, had felt their lives any more in danger, you wouldn't have to worry about getting your BB guns back as you would be dead right now. |

He was doing his job.
Be glad you didn't have the 'gun' in your hand when he made contact with you.
Hope you learned a lesson |

Sounds like he was doing his duty, unable to identify the weapon and you both being armed i think theres nothing you should do but apologise for your lack of intelligence. |

If the officer believed you were armed and a possible threat then they are allowed to point weapons at you no matter how old you are. They were responding to a complaint of armed subjects (citizens and sometimes Police can't tell what kind of gun you have from a distance). This was a valid use of force. As for the seized BB guns you may have been in violation of some city ordinance (although a stupid one). Look up your towns ordinances and see if one exists. You can also contact the Police Department and see if you can get them back. |

You where acting like a fool. Obviously people called 911 to report a person with a gun, People carrying BB guns have been shot and killed by the police. You may know its a BB gun, but nobody else does. You where acting irresponsible. The cop was doing his job. As far as he knew, you had a gun, thats why his was out, thats why you where held a gunpoint.
You seem to think this is over a BB gun. Its not. Its over a person with a real gun, as the calls to 911 probably said. Until he found out you had a BB gun, in his mind, you had a real gun and where treated as such. Only you knew it was a BB gun. You are lucky you did not have it on you or turned toward the cop...you would have been shot dead and it would have been justified.
You have no complaint whatsoever and need to grow up. |

What you can do is stop whining. They obviously got a report of a person with a gun, how else would they respond. You broke the law, stop doing that. |

Ummm...He thought you had a gun. Its a very effective technique. I've used it a time or two.
Call the PD and ask for your BB Guns back. |

Well, it depends on a lot of things.
First, if a neighbor called the police for a man with a gun situation, the police are GOING to come in with guns drawn.
I don't believe the gun to the head part of your story. The reason I don't is if an officer comes to your door intending to take you down at gun-point, he is not going to get close enough to you to put a gun to your head. It is safer to drawn down on you from a distance and have you get into a position (hands-up or down on your face) for his safety.
As far as the BB gun being confiscated, you'll have to find out if they are illegal in your area. For that, you would have to contact the town, city or other municipal authority...whichever you reside in. |

He saw a gun and responded with the appropriate level of force. You can file a complaint if you want, but they did what they were supposed to do. At the end of the day, you should be glad it was a cop putting the gun to your head and not some drugged out guy looking to rob you. |

Cop did his job, how did he know it was a bb gun? it could have been a modified 22, or as was reported, a shotgun. Cops will not take the risk because they want to go home to their family. |

You were playing with a BB gun and the cops responded to a 'man with a gun' call...
All's well that ends well; nobody died.
NOW -
Find out if, in fact, BB guns ARE illegal in your area...you may have met an over-reactive police officer. |

Nothing you can do.
The police had information that you had a real gun and they acted on that information. Putting the gun to your head was "reasonable force" to do to get you to tell where the guns and your friend were hiding. As far as the officers were concerned, you were armed and dangerous!
In any case, you had broken the law by having the "guns" in your city.
If you still want to complain (I doubt you would suceed), you should get in touch with your Citizens Advisory Service (different name in different countries) or your Police Complaints Commission.
Be sure to have the full and true account of your story, along with times, identities of the officers and everything. |

Where society is going, if i was a cop i would have gone gun-drawn as well no matter how old they said they said you were, 5 or 79. and they were just taking basic precaution, and yes, some cities dont allow bb guns to be fired within city limits without a permit or licence. |

it is perfectly legal. The cop did not know what you had was a BB gun, for all they knew you had real guns. If they were not legal in your city, be grateful they did not shot and kill you. And if they did shot you it would also be perfectly legal for them to do so, since you were brandishing what they thought was a real gun |

Excessive use of force... contact the media, get a lawyer, and take it to court.
Comb your hair, wear a tie, wash your face, and make a killah interview on the local news. |

Since they didn't know what kind of weapons you had they had every right to point the gun at you. Look into the laws in your community. It may be illegal for you to use that type of gun in your backyard. Why do people on here always blame the police when they screw up? |

You can always go to you'r local courthouse or call and ask if there are any rules against citizens having bb guns at 16, another thing is where were your parents and why didn't they stop the officers from protruding into your/ their home . I would assume that, itself would be an invasion of privacy and an unjust cause for them to come to your home without asking question , and pulling a gun on a minor without knowing a problable cause to do so.BUT, then again in todays world ,Police tend to think if they have a badge the sun rises and sets on their asses. you choose how far you want to take it good luck . |

This story doesn't make much sense. We have the 2nd amendment which guarantees our right to own guns. You were in your backyard. You weren't threatening anyone, right?
So it makes no sense why the police would come to your house, point a gun to your head and take your rifles.
If this is a true story, I believe some of your rights have been violated. If you want your rifles back, get a lawyer. |
