Well, they don't always catch the suspect, but the fast ones are usually fast because they train hard. Contrary to some popular belief, many police officers take physical fitness very serious. Also, many officers are familiar with the area in which they are chasing a suspect and know shortcuts to cut off the suspect and catch him.

Cops are in better shape than they were a few years ago.

Hard to out run the radio. I can call in a location and direction and another cop shows up to chase the guy. Of course, there's always that darn dog, he's really fast 'cause he sinks his teeth into his work.

Simple. They train and stay in shape (some departments even give salary bonuses to officers who workout), they know the turf they're running on and suspects often aren't quite so familiar, they are always anticipating a suspect to run so when they do they are ready to pursue (its called situational awareness aka training) and as a special bonus, suspects usually aren't in such good shape. Also, an officer chases suspects more often then a suspect is chased by police so the police are more use to it. And they don't always catch them either, but when that happens, just call out the patrol dogs to track them down :-)

Their training. Just to pass the physical part of most police applications you have to run a mile and a half to 34 push ups and sit ups. If you do it alot you get used to it.

I can say that I am fast for the following reasons and I think most police officers are the same.
1. I am in excellent physical shape and work out
2. unless they are on meth or coke most criminals drain out of energy quick and are not in good shape
3. Magnum Hitech boots I love umm!
4. I just get really really pissed and angry and it gives me energy
5. I know my way around an area before chasing some one.

Pure adrenaline rush for me is what keeps me going. First foot chase I was in the moment my mind caught up with my body as I was tackling a guy my mind asked me WTF I was doing and I started breathing like I ran a Marathon.

We have magic shoes... retard, our job is to catch people not let them get away. Part of our training is how to stay in shape. It's also important for our safety. The more fit you are, the less likely you are to be injured or killed...

You've been watching too many episodes of "Cops" They never show the ones that get away, or the cops who are too out of shape to chase on foot.
