They have to film for about a month to get a half hour worth of interesting TV. So, the stuff you see on COPS takes 4 weeks to add up, that stuff doesn't all happen in 1 night. Most of the time police aren't pulling people out of their cars at gunpoint, but that makes for good tv. It would be pretty boring to watch the cops write speeding tickets to people who comply wouldn't it?
Also, if you get all your info from cops, you should also note that:
6) Everybody who is arrested has their shirt off. I have never seen anybody on cops get arrested who has a shirt on. Kinda strange. |

Yes, and every time I snap open a cold Coors Light, I'm immediately surrounded by scantily clad babes who want to party. |

I have been stopped twice just within the last year neither time did the policeman have a gun drawn.
But of course i wasn't running from the cop or throwing drugs out the window (you see that a lot on cops)
Ist time I had a broken taillight- cop said do you know why i stopped you (of course not- i am not a mind reader) and then he told me to fix it with some red tape. no ticket, no gun, nice guy
2nd time was a routine sobriety check point/license inspection (why they do these in broad daylight is beyond me- they need to set up these road blocks at like midnight- they'd catch a ton of drunks). No gun drawn and this state trooper was hot!! I could envision myself in handcuffs ( oops sorry tmi)
Really - unless you are looking for trouble, cops aren't going to give you any. |

1) Cops don't always have their guns drawn. Keep in mind that this is a TV show and cops will act dumb at times to keep it interesting for the camera.
2) Once again, TV show they only show the most interesting of incidents. The police officer probably pulled over 7 people before he found the DUI.
3) Not everyone, I haven't but a chunk of the US population probably has spent at least a night in County Jail. |

I've had several interactions with police officers growing up, from speeding tickets to an arrest for MiP. I've never had a gun pulled on me, only been handcuffed for the arrest, and never spent time behind bars. Every single time the police officer was incredibly courteous and friendly. I respect and appreciate the police, and I'm still early 20's, prime age for hating cops.
People that have problems with police officers, probably did something to deserve it or looked like they would be a potential problem. Don't dress like a thug unless you want people to think you're a thug. Be friendly and polite to the cop. They are there to protect society, which includes you. If you're threatening society, then all bets are off.
As for the guns drawn, there are numerous stories about cops that died while doing a routine traffic stop; in that position, I would probably want to pull my gun too! |

Yeah my mom is a police officer for NYPD. I have to disagree with you. If you have ever noticed on that show the people who are always targeted either are some type of addict or have a concealed weapon on them anyway. In the way of the world its either kill or be killed for them. and I my dear have never spent time behind bars so i don't know where your from but you got that twisted |

One thing I notice about COPS is how deceptively solicitous and "on your side" the police often seem there. They hold back the usual torrent of insults, threats, flat-out illegal activity and profanity because the cameras are rolling. |

Cops draw their guns because it simply works. A belligerent smartass quickly changes their ways with a barrel in their face. Everyones quick to judge cops because that's whats 'cool' these days...that is until someone breaks into your house...then who are you calling? |

Maybe you should get your statistics from an actual source rather than your imagination and a few busts you seen on TV.
Books teach well. |

All the episodes of COPS are edited. They get rid of the un-needed content to make more time.
I have never been handcuffed for a broken tail light and I have lived in the U.S all my life and have never been behind bars. Get your facts straight |
