I take numerous medications, but one of them I have to take in the day time. It is Xanax XR. I take 1 of those with about 4 ibuprofin. I do not want to carry my whole bottle of Xanax or ib. because i do not want it to get stolen so i put them in a little baggy and put it in my pocket. At 2 i just cut the baggy open and take all the pills. If an officer thought i was a drug abuser and i did not have my pill bottle with me, what could happen? I take Zoloft, Seroquel, Xanax, and Trazodone.

Tas - For being an ex RN i am glad that you are that, an Ex Rn. I would not trust you if you did not even know Xanax IS a controlled substance.

It is illegal to carry any prescription medication in any container other than the one it was issued in. Doesn't matter if the officer "thought" you were a drug abuser or not, he can still arrest you for not having the drug(s) in the proper container. Take out the amount of pills you will be taking, place them in the bottle, and leave the rest at home. |

What i have learned from my officer from school is that If you carry Xanax ( that is a very over used pain releiver also used as actual drugs) if you have it with out your perscription in your poket or somthing and when the POlice pats you down you will be arrested. IT IS ILLEGAL TO CARRY IT AROUND WITH YOU WITHOUT A PERSCRIPTION! |

Yes, Xanax is classed as a Schedule IV controlled drug as it is a benzodiazepine and addictive as is Valium. I am referring to the administration of this from a nursing prospective and would not have to register this in a facility as a controlled substance, they can be stored generally. Painkillers are classed as addictive but not all of them are controlled unless they are opiate based. |

Sensible is right but one thing to remember it is also illegal to put the wrong drug in a prescription bottle for another drug so you can't combine them into one bottle. Honestly, just get one of those pill containers, the little square ones with each day printed on it and use that. You could carry a couple of days worth, instead of the whole bottle. The truth of the matter is if you are just in possession of a day's worth of prescription meds, it shouldn't be a big deal. |

They could ticket you for it. Then you would need to take the bottle to court to show it was by prescription.
You should have the bottle or a pill holder not a baggie. The pill holder would look more professional. |
