Could i be any use in the police force?

I have a degree in geography and would like to also join the police force. However i don't want my years of studying something i enjoy just go to waste. Could they be a dept withing the police force that would need a geographer? I really want to do both....maybe an adviser of some sort?

Also, If there is such a position like what im inquiring about would i still need to take part in the normal type of training officers go though? even though i most likely wont be an in the field cop?

Agree with contributor who answered CBP (Customs and Border Patrol) You may not work directly and consistently within your field but you can contribute. CBP has spec units like Bortac and Borstar. Borstar for instance is search and rescue. Geographical knowledge of places where people may be in particular danger might be of some great use to that team. Dept of the Interior, US Fish and Wildlife, US Forest Service is a big one that could use your skills. All these agencies have Special Agents who bear law enforcement powers. Check all fed agencies. You'll find somewhere to be useful.

your best bet for that is the Border Patrol, trust me it's a field that could use you. I'm from New Mexico and they are desperate.

Your degree is useless. Every police officer must do field duty. Try the CIA or FBI
