YES you are violating traffic laws. By cutting through a lot you are in-advertenly causing a potential hazard and an extra situation to WATCH! and you can be ticketed.

Technically, yes, it is illegal to cut across a parking lot just to avoid a traffic light. If a cop sees you, they have every right to pull you over and give you a ticket.

If you just go to the traffic light, you might even find that you are wasting precious seconds by cutting through the parking lot.

In my town there is a City Ordinance prohibiting Avoiding Traffic Lights (by cutting through parking lots) .Different areas have different laws concerning this.

I was a officer in GA for some time, and it is illegal there.
I don't know any officer that ever wrote a ticket for it, but if they wanted to stop you , that would give them a reason to.

Alright, yes, it is illegal, but the question should really be if it is enforced or not. Officers will normally not do anything about it unless it causes something bad to happen. For example if you caused a wreck while doing it, they will definitely add it to your list of violations.

yep, it is considered to be the same thing as running the light. But it is a little hard for the cop to prove that's what you are doing unless he sees you do it day after day. If he sees you just once and pulls you, you can always use the defense " I was going to that store (if there is one) but changed my mind."

No California law against it, but I have heard of city ordinances against it. The problem will always be PROVING your intention. One could easily argue that you turned into the store, forgot that you had to be somewhere else, so you changed your mind and continued on your way.

actually driving through the parking lot isn't illegal I mean it is but the law is it's illegal to avoid a traffic signal by any means. I've been to court a lot and been pulled over even more always bring the cop to court even more so if your from a smaller town becuase if the cop doesn't show up your free to go no ticket but also often they will offer you some kind of deal like no ticket for 6 months or something like that and if you don't get a ticket in the 6 months it's gone you don't have to worry about it. I've probably gotten 10 tickets and only 1 is on my record all the rest the charges have either been dropped or they give me a deal I have 4 deals I waiting to go away as we speak :) oh yeah and another thing that you can say that they can't prove is say you were going to that place and then remember you had to be some where else or something along those lines that's how I got out of mine I got caught cutting through a bk parking lot I went to court and told them I was going eat something at burger king but decided I wanted wendys down the street and got off if they say why didn't you say that when the cop pulled you over tell them you were nervous cop scare you or something
