Deportation after "time-served"?

My friend received 200 days of County Jail for a case that he had recently lost. He is considered a "Residential Alien". So I was wondering, within the time period of 200 days that he will be serving, is it possible for the INS to come and pick him up? Also, if they did, would he have to finish serving his days here first before they actually deport him?

Would depend on how your local jurisdiction likes to handle things.
Some would let him serve his time and walk away.
Other localities will contact the INS while he is serving his 200 days and when a local guard walks him out of the jail on his last day, the local guard will hand him over to someone from the INS who is there to pick him up.
Other localites do not want the expense of housing him in a US jail, so as soon as they know his status, they will contact the INS to come get him.
I worked for a state department of corrections. One of my duties was to work out exchanges of information between our computer system and various federal agencies to ensure the full legal penalties were imposed. The federal agencies even paid us money for each inmate we reported to them. And this system of exchanging information with the feds was then made available to all local jails.
We had 15 federal agencies we provided with information on our inmates as the inmates came in our doors. |

Depends on the crime. A crime involving "moral terpitude" is subject to deportation as is any felony (crime where one year or more is the punishment).
You can call immigration and ask if a violation of ___ is cause for deportation. |
