Defectives? (Intentional) MYTH! They are just officers that wear suits instead of uniforms and have tested their way out answering radio runs and handling traffic accidents. They are just like anyone else. Some are good at their jobs, some are lousy. Some have a knack for it, some can't close a case with the guy handcuffed to their wrists. Detectives are not "elite" police officers (although too many of them think that...) they are just guys and gals with a different set of priorities when they come to work each day.... |

Well, you have to work your way up to the position of detective in the police department and they usually have a higher education than the uniformed officer, but it is not as glamorous as they make it on TV. |

They do have to be very perceptive, observant and intelligent to achieve their goals. It's amazing what they can figure out. |

well, they generally have to earn the position and the promotion process weeds out the ranks. i respect a detective more than a regular officer. |

ok my father is in the police force and from what i have come to understand is that they are not necessarly elite to the police force but are better trained to perform specific duties. A good analogy would be the difference between a person with a bachalure degree and a person with a masters. i hope this helps you |
