Depends on who you ask. Manson was there, taking a shower during the Tate murder (or was it the other one?). He says he didn't order it, that is was Tex Watson that gave the orders. The people that participated claim he told them to do it.
Remember, this was all because one of the Beach Boys pissed him off. That and he didn't get his recording contract, and because the Beach Boys changed the lyrics to one of his songs.
Manson is also the reason The Beatles would never admit that they put hidden messages in their songs (Paul is dead and all that junk), because he claimed that they were sending him messages. |

Isn't giving the orders part of participating in the crime? People who wield power over others and influence what others do are just as guilty as the active participants. |

He was suspected of actually committing the murder of a fellow nicknamed "Zero" by stabbing him with a sword though. |

According to the book Helter Skelter... Manson never killed anyone. He just ordered the killings to be done. He was present during some of the crimes but didn't kill anyone. His followers thought he was Jesus and were ready to comply to his orders.
Does that make him innocent.... not at all. Manson is a psychopath. |

Yes, he only gave the orders. Some say he had some sort of mind control like thing over his followers, they did anything he said, even when it was the sick atrocities he ordered they do. I've heard rumors that psychologists that visit him in prison never return. Freaky stuff |

He was framed.... Tex Watson was already wanted in connection with 2 other murders in TX long before he meet up with Manson. Manson knew about the Tate murders after the fact and did help try to over it up. He did tie up the LiBance's but left long before Tex killed them. Even during the trial all the killers said he had nothing o do with the murders. He was convicted for guilt by assicoation. well as i remember the situation and how it went that Charles Manson was like a god to them. And his children, thats what he called them just did anything he said. And ya they did just kill all those people for nothing. |

He did not actively participate in the Tate homicides (5 deaths). Linda KAsabian testified that he did participate in the murders of Rosemary and Geno LaBianca. She testified that Manson was upset at the chaos during the Tate murders and wanted to show his followers how to subdue the victims without the panic ensuing. She stated that he tied the LaBianca's up and then left the residence lafter telling his people "you know what to do".
He stayed at the Spahn ranch during the Tate homicides. There is evidence that he was present at the scene of the Heineman, Shea and Zero murders. |
