Yes! Well... my son and his friend were playing inside while me and my friend were sitting on the porch. Next thing we knew the cops were in the yard and we were trying to figure out what was going on. He said someone called 911 and we said no we didn't . He went on to explain that it sounded like a couple of kids, but they didn't talk to the dispatcher. We went inside and asked the kids but they both denied it. Of course. I was SO embarrassed! |

No. At least realize your mistake and call back and cancel the unit already en route to your house. Or at least answer the phone when the dispatcher calls back. |

isn't it hard to dial 3 digits that happen to be 911... and then call that number.
I doubt it was by accident. |

no, but the police are required to respond to a real or false 911 call or hang-up. they don't know if there is someone that pretends to be the home owner and attempts to tell the police dispatcher that there is no problem when there might be. hope i helped. |

as a general rule the police will respond to a hang up or no voice contact call. even if the person says it was a mistake an officer will check it out. you never know if the person is being forced to say it was a mistake. |

If anyone did do this by "mistake" the best thing to do is to say it was a mistake. I know some 911 dispatchers. It happens all the time. Some people even call because they have a cell phone with no plan, and they will dial 911 but nothing else. People call just to talk to someone. That is illegal, but not worth the paperwork. So please cut those dispatchers some slack and be careful. |

Indeed, this has happen ofter on 911 hangup calls. If you mistakely called 911, just tell the operator that it was a mistake. |

We always check out 911 calls, whether they happen to be hang-ups or not. Better to be safe than sorry. |

We use to have it happen all the time, even though no one called the cops. I've dialed it once by accident and I told the lady it was by accident but she still sent the police out. The most awkward time was they came to my house I answered in boxers and a t-shirt.. I as like 11 and was talking to my mom on the phone so it was in my hand. They asked if I called and I said no but it happened a lot for some reason though no one called.. and he just goes.. well.. you have the phone in your hand right now. lol |

My grand-daughter(8) and her 4 year old sister along with their cousin (8) thought it would be fun. They went to the bathroom at a restaurant and dialed while in the hall-way.When the police and firetrucks came and no one knew who did it, (managers etc.) my youngest one spoke up and said" We did !" Of course she didn't know it was something they shouldn't do. They really got in trouble. The older girls had to write an apology to the police, firestation, and manager of the restaurant but they both said the worse part was hearing their mom "preach" about it forever afterward. They will never pull another stunt like that. !!! It was no accident. |

Me and my little brother were fighting back when i was 13 and i was pissed at him. so i dialed 9-1-1 but hung up immediately. 15 minutes later two cops were at my door. i told them that nothing was wrong and we were just playing. luckily, these were nice cops and they understood.ll good, i learned a lesson! |

It should be comforting to know that they are doing their job! |

My mom has been a dispatcher for about 19 years so I know what happens if you call 911 and hang up. It is called an "incomplete call" and they send police right away as if it were a big emergency. It takes up a lot of time and resources for the police and the 911 center. If you ever call 911 but didnt mean to, you need to let them know that you didnt mean to and they wont send anyone out. If you are pranking 911, that is an arrestable offense. |

My son did it when he was two. I think we had an emergency button on the phone and he picked up the handset and pressed it. The cops were super nice about it. |
